Yeah Merv, RMC have never been good at marketing.

Since the current owner took over few years back they have ventured into manufacturing the Westfield cars under licence:

http://www.westfield-sportscars.com.au/

So they did not have to rely on the glass cobras in what they described as a crowded market. You can still buy their kits but you have to know about them or get them thru folks like Neil Streeting in Sydney who is a cobra builder.

However, more recently they imported two Kirkham alloy cobras. I guess to put some distance between their products and all the others in the marketplace.

The Kirkhams seem a class product. I was pleased when David Kirkham wrote back when I put up a few photos of my Cobra recently. I wonder what grade/thickness of aluminum they use these days to prevent easy denting? It must make painting such a quick process to with so little body prep to do.

Not as far as the Kirkhams soulman, but I could very much be wrong.

There was rumor that at least one Kirkham was privately imported prior to RMC involvement but if there was the owner does not socialize here or any of the cobra clubs. There is a NZ alloy one somewhere but again he does not seem to socalize with us mere replica owners.

Merv, I had the privilege to sit in an alloy cobra during a US trip years ago and my first thought was how hot it would get in our summer.

Why, I thought all the dents really add to the patina. I've seen a few street/track driven alloy cobra bodies now and I've seen more than a few dints on them. And as Rebel1 said, the heat. Some people like their alloy, but I'm definitely a glass cobra kind of guy. Although a polished aluminium Cobra body would look fantastic in my lounge. Hmm, might have to contact David...hmm, I mean RMC.

Well, welcome to the madhouse of glass replica owners soulman.

As I said, we heard about you and have been digging pins into effigies of alloy cobras hoping you'd turn up.

Who said black magic doesn't work.

Again, Welcome to the madhouse and we hope you get involved with the Melbourne club..

soulman, If I lived in Melbourne I wouldn't wanna socialize with those Melbourne cobra owners either.

We, and by we I refer to those of us from the rest of Oz recognize that the beer made in Vic is akin to cats pi$$, and turning right from a left hand lane is somewhat dangerous. Hence, the locals must be a sandwhich short of a picnic to live in the place.

Anyways, have a look at this thread and see if you can make it:
** Shelbyfest 2009 **
you really will enjoy meeting a bunch of really good folks.

Titled as a 1965 in the US - and imported under the >30 year rule? Bloody smart. Good on ya I say. There is little doubt in my mind the kirkham is the best "replica" there is. Well done Soulman and welcome to the forum. Love to see some pics of your car.

Welcome Soulman.

Would love to see your car one day.

I think there may be another alloy continuation based car in Vic - unless yours is the one with a Shelby family connection.

Soulman, I was wondering if your Kirkham was RH drive. Did you order it with the options you wanted or was the car built with stainless chassis?
Rebel 1 is right about another Kirkham in Australia. Its in Sydney, LH drive, blue with white stripes and was imported about 3 years ago. As a matter of interest the car is for sale at the moment for approx. $350,000.........."tell him he's dreaming".

Regards.

Howdy,
I was REALLY lucky with mine, its lhd brushed, polished stripes,ss chassis all the extras possible inc an efi 482 ci shelby all alloy block built by Kieth Craft. The previous owner managed to get it registered in the states as a 65-an impossible thing to do now as there seriously closed the loop holes.I did alot of homework and its impossible to get one any other way or id be buying in [and everyone else]by the hundreds!
Visited Shelby but Kirkham are the Bees Knees.
Had a heap of headaches to register and insure it, and parted around 300k Aus$ .The guy selling the one in NSW is a shonk! its a glass body that can Never be legally registered in Aus.
