No Rego for me...
I failed my rego inspection today
Apparently I need to make a "Grille" for the front of the car and also install the side vents (or otherwise block the holes)....
A Cobra with a "Grille".... has anyone had to do this???

Bad luck Bobby
What they are worried about someone leaning in there and burning themselves on a hot radiator? Seems the WA road authority is a stupid as the rest around the country.
Grills have seemed to have been a personal choice but perhaps no more. Just another item that falls off after rego perhaps.
So hop to it and make up some disposable items to get on the road!!
Cheers

Bobby, I'd have a chat with both RMC and G-Force to ascertain their knowledge of the requirement of a grill.
Maybe there has been some mis-interpretation of the rules.
Best of luck.

Sorry to hear that Bobby!
Nevermind...book your next inspection date straight away and it will only be probably another week before you get your approaval...Meet those 2 requirements and it will be a lot harder for the inspectors to knock you back next time round!
A bloody grill??? I have never heard of anyone requiring a grill for rego either!
I'm sure you can fabricate something up for a grill and side vents pretty quickly Bobby!
Regards.....Paul

Man those WA guys are strict.
I had no grille and no side vents.
My Vic Roads guy was only interested in the Vin No and Eng no and made sure I had not removed my mirrors or lights.
Good luck next time around.

Bummer Bobby
Those guys at Midland are so inconsistent. I can understand the side vents, but a grille! that's daft, anyhow, if that's all they want just do it ASAP and get those plates.

It's not the end of the world.... it is mildly annoying though
I've booked it in for next week already, so I'll just get the side vents from Rob at G-force, and then make up a "grille" out of the expanded mesh I used for the sidepipe heat shields....
The guy did say that if I fixed those things there should be no problems!!!

Just make a grill and glue it in so it falls off later.
Hope all goes well next week Bobby.
Still waiting on my VIN number and then it is all go, freaking frustrating waiting on pen pushers to pull their finger out though.

So Close
Hey Plums,
Hope all goes well on the next round! I have heard there are a few things that fall off after rego, make sure you take the 'rough' road home!

Maybe they are not as used to Corvaces? Making up a simple woven mesh grille should not be a problem.

Not a fan of grills much as it sounds like you aren't either too Bobby, whether just for the work or the look but have to admit that fine version Kris links too isn't too bad.
I don't have that decision so it's all academic. Send pics once done Bobby so we see your handy-work.

I will be making the grille out of the same expanded mesh that I used on the sidepipe heatshields. It should look somewhat similar to the picture link that was posted on here.
I was thinking I may paint the new grille bright pink ..... They just said I had to make a grille, they didn't mention anything about the colour!!!

I am wondering if you put it to the engineer / the rego mob; that, if you installed a screen just in front of the radiator. Would that be sufficient. I intend to put one in front of mine to stop rocks and bugs. It will be about 1" in front of the radiator core and will hardly be noticeable.

No shame in failing, plenty of us do.
I failed on noise and they queried the angle of sight between the driver looking ahead and looking slightly to the left at the speedo! (less than 15 degrees)
Just look on it as another couple of jobs to do, it'll make rego success sweeter!
Wonder what the most bizarre/ridiculous reason for failure is?

BTW Plums, how did you manage to pass the noise test with your vent holes open?
I found that the noise level from the front of the car was similar to that at the back and had to put plenty of noise mat in the engine compartment to pass, including blocking the vents.

Here is my "Grille", it's not pretty but it should be ok...
Also fitted the vents as required by the examiner.
