Decals
I've been wearing the warpaint for the last 4.5 years and know one has said anything. Been stopped at booze bus several times and no comments only thanks from cop when told to watch legs on hot pipes.

cheers,
Bryan

I used vinyl stickers as I could not get the static ones. But they look great.

Jeez you Aussie guys are some troopers. If I had to live under those jackbooted rules I think I'd go nuts. I used to really want to visit your beautiful country but the more I read about the government the less I want to go. First they "buy back" all your guns (still haven't figured out when the G owned them before you guys) and every time I read a post in the Aussie section someone is being hosed by seemingly stupid rules. For instance what the hell does having numbers on your car have to do with its safety? Legitimate safety concerns I understand, I've been in US law enforcement for almost 30 years, but some of the rules you guys live with are just out there. Someone complained so you have to haul your car down to a station to be inspected?! WTF?
Just ranting, Steve

I might've found a happy medium. Here's a Factory Five Cobra with and without decals.

In NSW & ACT they ARE ILLEGAL-having been an car club president/vice pres & competition organiser I know they illegal. We used to run a hill climb that started in NSW & the finishline was in the ACT, so i had to be familar with both state & territory rules.
In NSW if you have your numbers displayed whilst on the open road and you pass someone they can book you for racing
even though you might only be 60-80k's !! Not saying they will, but you've only got to meet a shi##y cop and he can Hammer you presuming he knows the legislation. The sam applies in the ACT, unless you're in a sanctioned event.

Just idle chat, off at a tangent:
I guess theres the law, and officialdom, and then there's reality.
I drove my last car (in UK) for 2 years with no front number plate - legal requirement in UK. Every club meet i went to folk said 'did it drop off??' or similar, and telling me id be in trouble. i carried it in the boot (trunk), but didnt like the look - spoilt the front of the car imo. never pulled over, no problems. once had a traffic cop come over for a chat while we waited in the sliproad for a traffic jam to clear, then he went off to find out the problem, and drove all the way back round to tell me what had happenned. no mention at all. Ofcourse i dont drive like a maniac as my 5 year old is usually in the passenger seat, so maybe that helps.

SAMBO, Thanks for that, i did have a look at that sight and it looks good, it does seem a bit limited on what you can choose but if that's all there is i'm sure they'll do fine. Are they the static cling type and do you just remove them with water? Thanks again..........Rob.......

Rob, no idea mate. I just found it via google. I imagine they work using static cling, presuming both surfaces are dust free they should just self-adhere. Kind of like "Don't Tip the Waiter" if you remember that board game?

Finishline sell the static-cling vintage decals. I bought a set for my car without realising they were static-cling, but they don't "cling" very well to aluminium.

Sambo, can't say i remember that game but i'm only a baby. I'm going to try the finish line ones, they have the sponser decals i like and you get to choose your own number ( up to 2 digits). I hope the static cling holds well, i shouldn't have any problems i imagine if there for cobras they should stick at least to 200mph.

I have the Finishline decals and meatballs.
If you clean the paintwork and use a spray water bottle and mist it on you will get good contact. Wipe out all bubbles and air.
Do the air and bubbles again the next day prior to driving. They have been good down the main straight at Wakefield Park raceway at 180 no problems.
Keep the sheet to place the decals back on when not on the car. Also store them flat.
Enzo and Paula at Finishline are good to deal with and I have purchased a lot from them over the years. Always delivered on time and well packed.

Thanks Bernie, I just happened to go past a signage place at work today, i went in and told him what i was after and he showed me the product, says he can make what i want no problems at less than half the cost of the finish line ones. I'll give him a shot and if they turn out ok i will try and post some pics. If they don't work i will order the finish line ones i guess.

In NSW there's a $308.00 fine and loss of three points out of twelve. ( it takes 3 years to get them back) For an obstructed number plate

Thay may well be the way to do it on GRP cars, but on aluminium, they literally just fall off. The bare metal body just dissipates the static and the decals fall off.
I ended up using spray mounting adhesive, which worked for a while. But I still lost one decal on the way to Le Mans.
