Brake Light Switch
I was hoping for some opinions on using a brake light switch that would be either the electric plunger type set up on the brake pedal, or a pressure switch set up in the brake line. I cant be bothered making a bracket for the brake pedal and I already have the in line sensor.
A couple of people have told me the in line sensor is painful and messy to change if it goes wrong, but I can install the sensor in line with the bottom of the main chassis rail so if it did leak any fluid couldnt affect any part of the car.

Hi Mando,
I am using the inline pressure switch option on the rear brake line.
Seems to work ok, although I do notice it does come on a "little delayed" when I have my brake bias set with a high bias toward the fronts. i.e. you have to put a moderate amount of brake pedal pressure to get it to light up. Not as sensitive as a electrical switch on the pedal.

I prefer the electric switch on the pedal Mando, it is easy to adjust and comes on instantly, it might only be half a second, but when you brake hard and a car is following too close, you need all the room you can muster.

ive heard its common for the pressure ones to leak if the flares arent perfect
brake pedal switches on th epedal are only hard to fit if u get the wrong type
goto wreckers and look at which one will fit easy
easiest way is to pop rivet or weld a small angle iron on side of pedal
say half way along the depth of pedal cause if u try to work of the very thin front edge of the pedal u have limited room
so if u fit angle iron half way down then gives u more room to mount the switch along side the pedal
the handbrake switch is harder to fit than the brake switch heheeh
the metal on the hand brake lever is a bugger to drill

Thanks for all the advice, it seems like the electric switch wins hands down. Thanks for nothing Sideshow, I hadnt even begun to think about the handbrake.

nearly every cobra i wire up has no handbrake switch
so i just give them a micro switch from jaycar
problem is u can glue it and hope it doesnt come off
or drill 2 tiny holes but the steel that the handbrake is made from just blunts the drills
or takes ages to get thru it
ive recently made one job easier
found a new cheap unit for seat belt lights

Mando - if its not too late you may think about ditching the MG one and put in a Lokar which you can get with the built in switch.

Thanks Tenrocca but it really is to late. Ive made up all the spacers and had everything plated and working. If I was starting the build again Id go to the trouble of installing the handbrake on the other side of the tunnel.
Do you think you could get that sort of finish on the whole car?

Pop rivet, Glue ? No wonder the cops and others come down hard on ICV owners. This sort of poor workmanship is typical of those that want to make a quick buck or are ignorant about doing a job properly. DO IT ONCE & DO IT RIGHT. simple.
A little extra effort can produce a quality result. Not a f****ng glued up crap job.

well if u have seen some of the wiring on some cobras i have seen (not ones i have done)
they all look like the hand brake with the glue on switch heheheheh
no wonder in a year or so they get earth and bad conenction problems
personally i dont think its the extra effort
with cars in general i think its if u did everyting to the perfect condition or how u really want it to look like then the whole car would cost 5 times as much
i get guys who dont want to spend 200 bucks to make there car way more safer
makes u want to say go away dont call me again becasue u know they will go down the road and spend 1000 bucks on a stereo or racing seat covers or blue led wiper squirters

Hi Gregg, in one of your posts on this thread you said that youve fitted a brake bias setup on your car. Any chance of posting a few pics of where and how you did it?

Hi Mando,
I think it is either a custom job by Ian or a Tilton brake bias bar.
(As I got a rolling chassis the pedal box was already installed)
I believe you can get a remote adjuster knob for this set up but I am told the Engineers dont like this as they dont like the brake bias being able to be adjusted from inside the cabin by the driver.

Thanks Gregg, Thats the same setup Ive got. I thought you had installed one onto the brake lines for adjustment. Is the 3rd brake light one of Ians or from something else. Could you post a couple pics of the light.

Tenrocca, One day I'll have my car on the road (longest build time, record holder) I'd like to show you what a little extra effort can produce. My car is definitaley NOT a show stopper but I have gone the little bit extra to produce a 'nice' safe car with a few sweet spots.
