Default Finally painted

It has taken almost 5 years but it is finally painted.

After receiving quotes of 10 to 15k for the body prep and paint job, I opted to have a go myself in my garage (hence the plastic every where).
Although it is no show room finish, it came up better than I thought and cost under 2k which includes the purchase of AFS sanders, DeVilbiss GTI Pro gun and materials.
I'm also told by my wife it will cost new carpet thoughout the house from the dust created and I'm lucky it didn't cost our marriage.

Next step is carpet, Any suppliers in Melbourne that can be suggested.

Really nice job...looks great!

Love what you've done with the black plastic

Be thankful your missus is happy with new carpets and doesn't start hankering for timber floors

Cheers

Dale - that looks awesome. Wait till you get the bits back on it.

Love the temporary spray booth.

Did you change the standard door hinges?

Cheers

I just had another look at your pics Dale - those rolled cockpit edges and sills look familiar Huge improvement over the standard finishing off in those areas.

Well done, love the colour. Very impressive work. At the price it cost you, you can afford to paint it 5 times and still be in front.
Cant wait to see it all back together in street trim.

Regards.

Thanks for the comments,

The red is a Rover colour called Fire Frost, looks great in the sun.

The door hinges have been redone and the roll overs and door sill ideas may have been borrowed from a few of you guys. It makes a huge difference.

Cheers.

This is what it's all about....Building your car...Yourself ! Having a go and doing it right.
YOU BLOODY BEAUTY. Good on you. I spent three months preparing my cousins Mustang to paint and took eight hours straight to paint it. ( in a shed lined with black plastic) The car is so perfect , my cousin won't take it out because he keeps getting asked who painted it. Plus he's scared it will get damaged. I'm not bragging. Just proud of a good job done for the price of the paint and a little labour. I will do the same with my Cobra.

Default Wow!!!

Dale

The masking of the car and the garage is itself a piece of fine art, let alone the fantastic finish you have on the car. You should be very proud.

Have you documented the process? I (for one) would be very interested in hearing about the journey.

Geof

Dale's effort just confirms the comments I made about painters in another thread.

Cost of $2000.00 including a gun/sanders/masking etc. and I'd guess the plastic film to protect his spray booth.

That leaves change of $13000.00 from a $15000.00 pro spray job. What's a pro painters hourly rate?. Usually it's the laborers/apprentices who do the bulk of sanding and blowing the primer on, so lets say $60.00 an hour.

Give one full day to the pro to blow the final coats/stripe etc.

So .. $13000/$60.00 = 216.6 hours ..... or approx 5.5 weeks full time work on the car.... I don't think so.

My comments are justified.
