Default Some update pics

Inbetween being a smart arse on the forum, Ive actually been working pretty hard on the car. The temp paint job has come up reasonably well, and I put a lot of things back on the car this arvo. It does look alot better with the sun on it (I was running out of light when I took the pics).

The stance isnt quite right either (bit low at the front)

To complete - build right side headers, bleed the brakes and clutch, and interior.

Looking fine! Like the colour, the silver stripes and the rather 'low key' appearance over all. I recognise that pattern of 'rivetts' on the bonnet and scoop as well...

Well done!

Outstanding, youve achieved a fanastic finish. How long do you think you spent on the whole car to get that finish?

Regards.

The finish is a mix of aluminium powder and polyester resin - thinned and sprayed on through a proprietry process which is currently with my lawyers (I just made that bit up).

I probably had 4-5 months of nights and weekends on the body work, and then another 2-3 months trying to get the finish right. I used a spray polyester which I blocked to 180 before spraying the aluminium. It goes on very think (needs to as it gets sanded back) so I didnt need to sand any finer the 180. Once it dries I wet sand and then hit it with the scothbrite pads to get the brushed finish. The stripe is polished in using a metal polish - masked and sanded back on the edges.

I ran into all sorts of problems doing this finish, including one paint of the whole car that had to be completely sanded off (in the end it helped me get the car a bit flatter) - the problem is getting it even all over, quite thick, and not sanding through that top coat. In the end I sectioned the car off, and created join lines on the edges of the stripes in order to paint small sections at a time.

Les - thankyou for suggesting it looks like a ridgey didge alloy cobra - according to soulmans logic, if it looks just like something, then it is that thing - so my plasic car with is actually a real cobra now.....cool

It looks terrific Andrew. You should be very proud of your efforts.

Everyone is admiring the great finish but I'm even more impressed by the panel gaps. Some serious attention to detail there.

Cheers

Wow! Very impressive. You've done a fabulous job there.

I had to double check your details to confirm it was a CR.

Looking forward to seeing a 'daytime' photo.

Cheers

I guess its the ultimate compliment when somebody tries so hard to make something look like the REAL thing, but falls short on details.
Remember the word "Real" referring to what a Cobra should be.
A Cobra is more than something remotely resembling a Cobra, it helps when the details are replicated also.
# 1- start off with a body that looks like a Cobra.
# 2- the interior.
#3-The running gear ford etc...i would of thought this an important one!

I do why some people take a beatiful idea and try to be individual when ultimately they want it to resemble the REAL THING.
Just some tips tenrocca. And herhaps then u can call it a Cobra.

Great job regardless on it.

Keep smiling...
Soul.

By the way....
Youre going to require 1 more criteria tenrocca to call it a real continuation Cobra.
Your car listed in the SAAC registry for REAL Cobras.
What page will your car be on???

I guess there some things you cant replicate.

Glad to know theres more than one **** stirrer on this usually boring forum.
Soul.
