oil catch can
Hey Guys
I need to fit a 2ltr oil catch can to my Coupe so I can enter some speed events.
I'm looking for a can that will look at home in the engine bay not something stolen from a ricer car. Any Idea's?

Do a welding course and build your own

I have a black oil catch can similar to this one.
My inner fenders are painted black so it's very inconspicuous tucked back up behind the right front wheel. BUT, the hoses leading to it are very conspicuous. So it will resemble a race car to some degree.

Dave, these look ok for about $200. They're in Adelaide and can make all shapes/sizes.

Edit: just spoke to Dave at ASE and they can do a 2L catch can with all the bits for around $200, whatever shape and made to suit fittings as required. They're also doing throttle body linkages for 6.0L if anyone's interested.

Question, are you looking for a coolant catch catch, or a puke tank for the oil...two different things. Most tracks are most concerned with a coolant catch catch can.

Hey Sambo that looks like what I'm after. I have a coolant catch can sorted,
just need an oil catch can Jamo. CAMS say's 2 ltr volume, I want one with twin 5/8 inlets so I can vent both rocker covers.

Ok, you definitly want some form of breathing, like the above examples provide (or utilizing a road draft tube...old school). As to the specific fitments (two inlets)...that you'll likely have to rig up yourself by modifying the tank or having two lines tee into one, but it looks like Sambo has the situation well in hand for you.

Yeah give ASE a call, very helpful on the phone and said he could do multiple inlets. I'm considering their air/ oil separator which he said has moved away from using foam to trap the oil and now uses baffles. Pretty reasonable prices too.

Hi Dave,
Pretty easy to make your own. I built one out of 100mm diameter ally tube.
This one has 2x #10 fittings on the top. There is a baffle inside that forces the air/oil vapour down the side of the tank and out through a perforated section. This helps separate the oil out before the air goes up and out through the filtered breather at the top.
This one holds about 3L or so. I've got an #6 fitting on the bottom that has a cap on it for a drain but I'm setting it up to run back ito the sump via a 1 way check valve.
I've made a coolant catch tank in the same style and removed my old header tank. Preciously at track days I had a soft drink bottle taped to the front X member for a coolant catch bottle (10 out of 10 for rat rod style). I've machined up and welded a filler neck direct to the water pump and the pressure cap is on there now. The coolant catch tank is set up with the inlet/outlet at the bottom so coolant will suction back to the motor as it cools. The coolant crossover between the heads also burps to the top of the filler neck as the highest point in the cooling system. The system fills really easy.
Hopefully the whole setup looks more racey than ricey

Mike, once you start with the bling there's no going back!
Plumbing back into the sump - aren't you worried about condensation getting into your oil? I've seen milky white stuff in the bottom of those things.

I don't think condensation will be a problem. With the check valve the oil will drain straight back to the sump while it's still hot and not have time to build up any condensation. After running a while the catch can will get pretty hot and cook off any condensation while driving.

Oil Catch Can
Dave, I have been arguing with some scrutineers at Track days for years about the size of my catch can (about 1 litre) on my Nissan track car with a 1.8 litre turbo in it. As I read the CAMS manual, if the can is not vented to the air, but back into the inlet, the size is irrelevant, it is only a problem if it can overflow and drop on the track. If it vents to the inlet it just gets burnt. My little car gets thrashed, and the level of oil in the can increases at a very slow rate, and I only drain it occasionally. Venting to the air is theoretically illegal too, on a road car. Mike, how much "blow by" does a Chev make anyway? Peter.

Beautiful work. I like seeing a nice tig weld and looks racey too.
The custom intake with the hoses to the tank is very nice also.

This is one I mocked up a while back.
Vent on top, a return outlet to the pan, a breather hose outlet and an inlet fitting.
