Is the FFR hot rod a replica of a pre 49 model? If not then that's the reason but if it is it seems the WA road group is taking a bit of a different stand.

This whole area is currently under scrutiny maybe this is driving WA's direction.

I got the info from ASRF technical advisory commitee rep in WA. I hope he is wrong because the FFR kit looked pretty good. The kit I saw had a modern chassis.

The national guidelines can be downloaded from the ASRF website. Below is part of the definition of a street rod from the national guidelines.

“A Street Rod shall mean a vehicle that has a body and frame that were built before 1949, that has been modified for safe road use, or a replica of a vehicle the body and frame of which were built before 1949.”

Lobelly said it...look at the 'new' flatheads that are available now...unbelievable ! fuel injection, alloy blocks, ardun heads, ardun blocks...it's all there. AND there is nothing like the sound of a flathead. As you know . A hotrod will register way easier than a cobra or late model kit car. Just a thought what do the rta class a factory five hotrod as ? a kit car or a hot rod.? Maybe slip a 33 crossmember in there somewhere .

Thanks all. A bit to think about. I have been leaning towards the LS3. Stripping and relocating the unsightly bits.

After speaking with ASRF reps in Victoria, I will go down the direction of Street Rod rego. I think. Allows a lot of leeway..

New guidelines make this direction a good option and values of cars do not vary that much between the full rego. street rods and those on the street rod rego.

Mmmm will see where we go.

I would go that direction with white walls etc.



Todd I think will go more modern with lots of aluminium/aluminum and alligator interior etc etc...... he is paying....I'm just driving it.

You can get an alloy flathead...with injection...

Bernie,

My understanding in NSW is that you can build a hot rod and register it as an original vehicle outside current ADR's if you tread carefully. By fitting a late model engine you will need to comply with the rules related to that date - including cat converters and charcoal canisters.

Because the FF kit is not a direct replica it will be regarded as an ICV,

I think club rego is a waste - who wants to have limited rego and tell other people when you plan to drive your car???

One day I hope to build a car that is cool, yet has a back seat to take more than one person for a ride.

Yes a rear seat would be a different thing..

The Club rego is not that restrictive.
