Making extractors/headers
Time to build some pipes to get the hot air out of the engine bay, even though there will be plenty in the driver area.
I only have limited space and it is not possible to fit factory or block huggers as far as I can tell.
Prices in Darwin for fabricating are fairly outrageous so I have decided to bite the bullet and have a go.
I should say at the outset that I am not a welders butt crack, so after doing some reading, I decided to buy a Henrob torch and learn how to use it.
For fusion welding it is a remarkably easy torch to use, except for the weight, so here is a step by step weld demo. Those that have skills can switch off now.
Tack weld to hold in place
Fusion weld the join by simply getting the two side of the metal to pool together, and just walk the pool around the seam.
Go back over it with some filler rod, the file/grind it flat and its done.
I will post some photos of the finished products when I've got them done.
Regards
Hogster

Hogster
For someone who is not a welders butt cut you have done an awesome 1st time
effort there.
I have a mate with one of these and he can weld anything with it and does a beautiful job. He says he would not use anything else and its cheap to buy and uses little gas.
I'm a lousy welder also but want to build new headers, you have fired me up to build some and I will borrow his torch to try as I dont own mig/tig or arc gear.
Well done and thanks, more pics to if available

That's prettier than it needs to be, nice job keep going. If you get a box full of mandrel drawn bends and you cut them straight across the bends you can swivel them to fit, they match nicely, and you can make some good compound curves with good flow.

As my welding instructor told me..
'There is no such thing as a bad welder, only bad grinders!'

I'm assuming you can do the same thing with a mig welder?
My brother in-law has one, and with a bit of practise I reckon I could get them nearly as good as these.
I may also save a few bucks...

There were a few like that on the Mecum Muscle Car Auction I was watching on TV last night. They went for what I thought were low prices 10-15K.
Hard to explain.

They are alot like Cobras in that documented history, known names of ownership and work done by, show (vs race) results all make a big difference to value and collectability.
