Default Bloody tires

HI Yve and Chris

I am not sure what you mean by slow QLD, I hope I haven't offended you.

The Tire issue was hard to get thru, and the committee spent many hours debating this issue over many months.

Firstly I would like to start by looking at the big picture, the nationals are our own event and it has evolved trying hard to meet the demands of the cobra owner. I see the King and Queen Cobra Competition as a contest for true road cars. Every year we see that boundary being pushed with cars becoming more race cars than street cars. (I am guilty of this)
We do welcome the "race" car but in the spirit of the event the King and Queen are for street cars only.

We looked at the Hoosier R6 specifically along with others and as per last years nationals all agreed that the tire is a true race tire.

The following 2 points from our regs classify this tire as open class only.

1. IT has "for competition use only" molded on the carcass
2. IT does not have a molded tread pattern from shoulder to shoulder.

I also rang the hooiser distributer in Australia and asked if the R6 are street legal and was told definitely no.

The regs we published have rules that we can, with our limited ability, police on the day. The simplest method we have is the "for competition use only" molded on the carcass.

Please appreciate that we do not run under CAMS.

However I do agree that 15inch tires are getting hard to get, we also discussed this at great length with the committee and several competitors that would be affected. As harsh as it sounds there is not much we could do.

I welcome this discussion as the event is for all members to enjoy and if there is something we need to fix we will.

Thanks

Phil

Default Rules Rules

Philm,

I think you have done a great job with this years Nationals rules.

Alot of thought and planning has gone into the event. You have catered for the Non Racers AND the street class cars (the majority) very well.

The event now has something for everyone.

Great Job,

STIFFY

Default Thanks

HI Stiffy,
Thanks for the kind words.

The guys that worked on these are: Phil Neall, Phil Lynn, Gordon White, Dave Richards, Mark Hudson, Karen Mizzi and Neil Streeting.

They all put in heaps of work getting these right.

Thanks

Guys

Well done guy's, at some point the line has to be drawn.
It's a shame that the street legality of some Tyres is so hard to define, but as you point out you are purely trying to create a level playing feild.

Default Regs Update

Hi Guys,
We have had a lot of feed back about our requirement concerning Steel value stems in our regs.

We will relax this issue by recommending the steel valve stems but the steel caps are mandatory.

The regs also state that cars must be registered. We do make a concession if a car finished and is a true street car but are in the registration process. If you fall into this you must contact us before the nationals and we will determine if you are eligible to compete in your class.

Thanks

Phil

Steel valve stems are hardy expensive or difficult to fit!

What's the story with steel valve stems and caps? I have a set in the garage just not on my street wheels that i will be using for the Nationals. I can put them on (i think) if i need to. Is it the risk of the rubber ones coming out under load?

Hey Guys,

I'll be coming to the Nationals.

I hope to see a lot of cars and get some ideas for mine as it will be 1/2 way through it's build.

Cheers

Lawrence

Default I'm missing out

Phiml,

I'm missing the Nationals already

Can you please arrange live satellite coverage of Friday practice, Saturday & Sunday events into Indonesia as I will then be able to enjoy watching you lucky buggers from the poolside bar in Bali.

Sounds like it will be a Nationals not to miss based on the effort and expanded level of activities you will provide for all cobra enthusiast's going along.

Hope you all have a ball and keep it going for next year.

Leeroy

Yes I too would love to see some coverage, so all you guys with video take a laptop so it can all be uploaded, links can be supplied either here on CC or over on the NSW site.

And I will go with Leeroy's words and hope the concept continues next year, see if we can get a few cars from the NT there, and push for some of the WA guys to get over to the Nationals with cars.
