Ford’s recent engine announcements have seen the likelihood of six different engine variants being available in the Falcon. Within the current economic climate this level of variation is likely to add complexity and cost to an already struggling product. As such, which engine has earned its place in the 2011 Falcon range? You’ve only got one choice, use it wisely.
Here’s a brief rundown of the choices:
2.0 I4T – Mandated by Ford Corporate, the I4T is seen as a way for Falcon to make gains into the 4-Cylinder only ‘Fleet’ market. As per the Ecoboost marketing claim this engine will provide, 6-Cylinder performance with 4-Cylinder fuel economy.
4.0 I6 – A Falcon mainstay since the beginning of time I6 has been green lighted for EURO IV compliance after previously being on the chopping block. While loved by all, does the old girl have any new tricks to combat GMH’s V6 DI engines?
4.0 I6 LI LPG – A long overdue Liquid Injection system should see the I6 LPG return to favour. Is it a case of too little, too late?
4.0 I6T – Performance, economy, and no equal have made the I6T a modern day classic. Will the current performance weapon of choice be relegated to the scrap heap come Coyote?
5.0 V8 ‘Coyote’ – A competitive crate engine from Ford US could see an entry level V8 outstrip General for street credibility, economy, and performance. Is there still a market for cheap Ford V8 thrills?
5.0 V8 SC ‘Coyote’ – Bigger than Ben-Hur a Supercharged Coyote V8 has been touted as providing the heart to the ultimate Falcon GT. This Halo engine provides the prospect of rewriting muscle car history, and putting Ford/FPV back on top. Does Australia still want a fire breathing monster

v8s rule.
As any teenager will tell you v8s rule .
I think as long as its legal to own and drive a thumping v8
we will regardless of the cost of running it.
As a builder i have thought about 4 and 6 cyl power plants
though they could be practical for a cobra it aint a v8.
as most people i have talked about it with have said.
The market for performance v8s and the turbo 6 is just getting bigger as all the young trades get such good pay rates they can go out and buy a new falcon ute with all the fruit. it seems buying a house is out of reach but a kick ass v8 ute is the go.

If my memory serves me right I believe that car was run by Rowan Meakins(spelling)..Kept on fowling plugs and melting all manner of stuff in the engine bay!!! Was a shame that year we didn't really see the full potential of the car as we were all keen to see it run and toast a few V8's!!

yep.
that was an evans kit and yes it was fast .
There was also a commodore v6 built in qld in a harrison kit.
it was a real budget build under 30k finished and regoed looked fine and went well.
But not the sound of a v8.
i would think the sound of a supercharger might over power the sound of a 4 or 6 engine enough to make sound ok.

It was still in it's gel-coat blue when I considered it early days as a running car to buy.
Only looked at the pictures and traded correspondence with the SA owner but knew the turbo motor was a screamer.
Could have been a fun car.
Anyone know where it went?

I hear the new bench mark for a street registered cobra around Morgan Park big track is a very impressive 1:07......... Pete and Wayne certainly turning the wick up....

Venom Racing spooted at Campbelltown this morning on my way to work - heading the WRONG WAY. Perhaps they saw the new NSW 2 car race cobra team in action and are running for the hills........

we made it to wakefield today and had few settling in laps car is much better than last year but still getting better each time we drive it.
