I will then get the steering sorted and I plan to buy the engine and gearbox with my tax return in July. Hopefully will be ready for rego early to mid 2011.
I am doing the body and interior myself, so if i find myself with spare time whilst saving for parts i may get some of this done.
What did you do for a windscreen for rego? Just perspex? If there is no windsceen then you dont need wipers, or demister correct? Sounds interesting, i read somewhere some others did the same.

Exactly what you said....First. I had to beat a deadline. That deadline was to beat the new emissions rules. I had exactly 20 months to build and register the car. I did it. My engineer said that if I register it without a windscreen, I won't have any trouble with spectral gloss, wipers (3) and most importantly the demister system. There was no windscreen at all. Very uncomfortable. Not like a motor bike. The wind just blasts you. It left pressure marks on my face from my sunnies. Once the car is complete I can re engineer it with the proper specifications. As I said before this was one ugly cobra.

Hi there Liam,
I have an aero screen that I made for rego purposes, In the NT the definition of an aero screen is one that when seated in the drivers seat you are looking over the top of it.
I think some States class it by its height.
Here is a pic of my car last Monday (when I started preparing for engineers report).
And here it is by Tuesday or Wednesday night with aero screen in place.
And here it is at the 2008 Nationals with mirrors in place.
This aero acreen mounts from the full size screen mounts and allows me to fit the side mirrors to the uprights, giving me a good view over the rear wheel arch humps.
And because it is only perspex, I have built a curve into it and fitted a rubber seal along lower edge, so the screen follows the same arc as the full size screen

In NSW if you put any windscreen there it has to have all the bits...wipers, demister, visors and no spectral gloss.

Unfortunately you are correct. It seems no one is willing to make a blanket decision so they just pass the buck. I think the fact that it isnt actually in force yet makes it difficult for us to talk with state leaders about it as they can't make amendments to federal legislation, only grant case by case exceptions (correct me if i am wrong).
Really all we can do is wait till the Vic boys start having to deal with it Jan 2011 and get behind them anyway we can to set a precendance for other states.
Hi Zedn, can I take up your invite and make a few suggestions: We can and should be talking to state leaders on this subject and not wait until 2011. We should not be doing it on an individual basis as it is ineffective. Approaches should be formal, on club letterhead from elected officers doing exactly as Mr Robert Hogan points out to do, using this as a reference point. To wait until the horse has bolted is too late and it will be pointed out that the club had every opportunity to put its case before the legislation came into effect but failed to do so. Of course this should be done on a national basis in a coordinated time frame or else the old divide and conquer strategy will be used. I know from experience they will use the state issue as a stalling tactic. If you agree notify your state committees in all states to start the process.

Just dreaming, i appreciate your support.
I agree with you, but all previous attempts have fallen over as you can read through the history brought up on this thread. Until they actually stop cars being registered people will lack motivation.
However, all is not lost. I believe i have figured out a solution if all else fails. I have a contingency if i dont get the car built in time. I will let everyone know when the time comes. I dont know if i am correct but if i am new cobras will be rather different. Hehehe (evil laugh).
