Default Any history of S C motorcars

Does anyone know if there is an association from S C motorcars to the B&B. I bought a S C replica back in 2006 and was told by the guy that I bought it from that SMC bought out S C and that B&B bought them out. The car was purchased in 1990 and finished and tagged in 1993. B&B has many of the features that my car has, but not all the same.

Lester

B+B used to be LA Exotics. Bryan told me they sold everything but the cobra and opened B+B with Barry. There are a few others that are like B+B too. Jim

Lester,

I will try and make a very long story short. In 1988 I went to work for Cobra Auto Works in Ontario Calif owned by Bruce Anderson to help finish some cobras they were building. I was moving back to Okla after spending a year in Calif. Bruce followed with the company and I was the GM. Bryan stayed in Calif to establish a dealership for the cars. Bruce and Bryan had a falling out and Bryan splashed a Cobra Auto Works kit and LA Exotics was born. I left right after the blowup. I was owed wages and a large bonus which I took in the form of a kit. I was contacted by several Cobra Auto Works customers asking if I would build them a car. I made several changes to the body and frame and the birth of SC Motorcars. Years later I took on a partner Frank Kelly and we renamed the company SMC. Young and naive I trusted the money man and his attorney. 6 months later I had 6,000 sq ft of empty buildings in Jay Okla. Those years the kit car industry was getting pretty ugly so I got out. JBL Motorsports is a story in itself. Will answer any questions you might have about the car. I still have a copy of the serial number log.

Larry,
Thanks for your reply. I got out the info about the car that was passed on to me and sure enough there your name is on the brochure and on the purchase agreement. This car was purchased 10-16-92 by Abe Hale. Last five is 00041. It's good to know the details about S C and it's history. I've only seen pictures of one other car that is the same as mine, it has different door handles than the SMC cars that I have seen.

Thanks again,

Lester

Default Just maybe this is an SC

I am getting the message that my car COULD be an SC considering the car has an Oklahoma assigned VIN, and, some of the features you mentioned. Take a look at my album and let me know what you think, Leon

Senda PM to Larry, he says that he still has the serial log which should have your car listed in it.

Lester...turns out that my car is in fact an early SC. I have pictures of the car being picked up at the factory. Owner mentioned to me that someone there has a aeronautics background. He forgot this persons name. I would love to see the brochure that you have. Any chance of scanning it? Leon

Any one looking for some good info on the S C Cobra can checkout the article in Kit Car Magazine January 1993 Issue. Excellent summary of the features and impressions of these great little Cobra's. I believe there are several further parts to this featured article in later editions.

Default magazine article

A good friend of mine here in Naples, Has the whole collection of Kit Car. He picked it out. i'll be trying to buy my own copy at a couple of upcoming car shows in the New England area. If I find one , I'll grab it for you. This guy in Naples, restored and sold an original Cobra for $3.5million in 2007. He will be doing my car. Leon

Leon, if you find the copies of 1993 there was a 4 part build of a sc motorcars, I have had no luck in finding reprints or magazines, only listings of what was in them. I would pay for any of those you can find, Lester scan of the original brouchure was great and I thank both of you for it. Let me know if you want me to send you some money so you will not have to spend your own.

Leon, I don't have any info on your cobra. I do remember the car though. It was built in Jay Okla. Bruce and Bryan Anderson were still in business together under the name of Cobra Auto Works " CAW " . I was the production manager. Sorry couldn't be of more help. You do have one of the first cobras from the Cobra Auto Works, SC motorcars, La Exotics later B&B, origins.

Larry
