Question Coil Overs

Hey all. Well only after 3 days I have a few questions already. I am installing the 9" rear with the coilovers. But I have nothing to install the coilovers with. From the pictures it looks like there is some type of bracket or clevis assy for the top. I am under the assumption that the bottom is just bolted in with grade 8 or better bolt...But I too have a problem there. It seems to need a spacer at the axle end as well, because the coilover is very close to the brake line hose for the caliper.... I think I may be missing something.. Any help would be great... Oh Yeah did anyone have to get the grease boots and the nuts for the ball joints on the tubular front end, and the upper control arm shaft nuts and locking washers?? Like I said I think I may be missing some stuff..

HELP!!

Thanks
Fred

Fred, I won't go into detail what happened, but I will say we had some problems about 2 or 3 weeks ago, but they are resolved now. I copied this and will give it to Bryan on Monday. Either Bryan or I will get your parts to you. In case you're wondering, I was the goofy looking guy with the green shirt wearing red and black headphone style hearing protectors finishing up the blue car at the front door.

Hey Ron, Why don't you just introduce yourself to us when we pick up our cars. I didn't know who you were till after I got my car home. I'm going to change my 8.8 rear to coil overs next week. If you have any pictures it may help. I'm on vacation next week. Its snowing out right now. Supposed to rain half the week. Time for some up grades. Jim

Thumbs up Thanks

YEAH RON why don't you say anything when we are there.. It would have been great to chat with you a minute or 2... You have been a great help and I would like to have thanked you in person.. Thanks for the info.. I though I was losing my mind.. I know it has been a while since I worked on anything besides a locomotive but I thought I was missing a few things... I sent an email to Karen and Bryan the other day, I know you guys are busy so I was just trying to figure out what was going on.. I was going to go and play tomorrow but I will wait till I hear back from you guys.. I am pretty much dead in the water till I get it to rolling status anyway.. I have limited space and help so I have to make it a roller first.. I will be waiting... & Thanks again...

If you want to see any of this on a live car, give me a shout. I am in the finishing stages. Not everything I have done may be 100% correct, so you can look at it and we can work together. You are definately missing parts. There are several spacers that go on the axel. One is fairly thick and about 1" long, then there are two, one on each side of the spherical bearing on the shock to allow it to swivel. On the top, there should be a spot for the coil overs to mount between. You will again need spacers on each side of the spherical bearing. I hope they did not forget to put the mounts there for you, I thought they were standard.

Ron, you guys been sniffing to much fiberglass resin, is that what really happened? I am still waiting on some seats, Karen said she had a ticket in. I am not in a hurry, but will be needing them eventually. The more I wait, the more likely I am to try to fit these high backs in and modify the tonnaue cover that I had to have!

Tom;

I may just do that with camera in hand but I am going to wait until next week after I hear from B & B. I basicly can't do any suspension installation at either end until I hear back, so I have a few peojects I need to clean up here then look out you may get that call here real soon to come and spy..
Thanks'
Fred

When I install coil overs on my my 8.8 rear I got aluminum
spacers with them that put them in the correct alignment.
I bought these shocks from Don Scott check with him.

Talking

Fiberglass resin? Yup! But I've been cooped up out in the welding/fabrication shop lately with CO2,argon,propane,oxygen and all kinds of assorted gases. (Natural and otherwise )

Jim, are you using Carreras? From us? If so, I will send you everything from the upper mounts and spacers down to the lower spacers and bolts, complete.

Tom, are you keeping the hi-backs? If they feel good, I would try to mount both sets the same so I could switch them around for different driving moods.

Guys, I'm the "behind the scenes" type of person. You know when certain people stand up front and take all the glory. But you and everyone else knows who REALLY does all the work!

Ron, I did not get the shocks from B+B. I need to see the way the top of the shock mounts to the frame. Jim
