Resistance range of Faria Fuel Sender
I am thinking of getting one of the Summit tube fuel level senders to replace the supplied sender. Yes, pricey, but should be more accurate. Anyone know the resistance range on the supplied Faria Sender. I could always pull mine and test, but with my current honey do list, getting an answer on here is much easier.

Don't have an answer for you but I agree the sender sucks. I will be keeping an eye on this post.

I think that the provided sensor is probably workable if you play with it to get it right. There are just 100 other things I would rather play with, and I was left stranded once because of the gauge. The summit unit is 8 1/2" long, so should it the tank. I just need to measure the resistance values. If it matches one of the two they have, I am going to get it. It is $87, but being a tube type sender, it has to be more accurate. While I am at it, I might put in the multi point pickup tube that Summit has. Hmm, maybe I sould just get a fuel cell!!!

I still have to pull the sender. Faria says that it is most likely a 230-33 ohm unit. Jegs has them for $75, I might be able to get them a little cheaper ($65 or so). I think they will work because they are meant for an 8 1/2" deep tank, which ours is. NO fiddling with adjustments. It looks like it has a standard bung on it, so we will see. May try to pull the sender later this week and put a multimeter on it.

Hmm, you say good luck like mixing a flamible liquid like gasoline with electiricty is a bad thing I will let you know what I find out. May not know how good it is until driving season (will it ever get here), but it has to be better than the current Full or EMpty, and 3/4 tank really ended up being not even fumes left!

You should not have to pull the sender out of the tank to test it's range. It's usually 0-90, 0-180 or 240-33 ohms, so fill it all the way and test the resistance between the wire at the gauge side and ground. (Remember to disconnect the gauge though). If it's not close to 90, 180 or 33 ohms, then you've probably got something different or it was setup incorrectly.

I went for a drive yesterday, and gauge was either at 1/2 or empty for the whole trip. It would change when I hit a bump. I took the sender out, and it does not move freely. Sure, I cold tweak it and get it working, but I through the multimeter on it, and found that it reads 33ohms empty. The full reading was all over the map. I ordered a 33-240ohm tube type sender from Jegs. I am 99.9% sure this will do the trick. It will definately show the range near empty, my only concern is Full and the transition from full to empty. I will keep everyone posted. Hopefully it will come by THursday and I can get it installed. I should be able to get a good test in on Saturday, as I have a long drive planned (weather and mechanicals permitting).

OK, finally got a sensor to fit. It is probably about 1/2" or a little more off of the bottom, so empty is more like 1/16 - 1/8 tank. Ended up going with an ISSPro sender and got their 6" version. Right now it is reading 1/2 tank, which is probably a little low for what I have in there. I need to fill the tank and drive a little. Installation once I found the right size was painless. It includes a washer and screws and it goes in place of the existing sender.

Hi Tom,
Thanks for doing all of the leg work that the rest of us can benefit from.
You mentioned it fits right in place of the other sender. Does it bolt right up or do you have to do some minor mods.

Bolts right up. Like I said, it is a little short, so E is probably means you have about 1/8 tank left. To me, that is much better than F meaning empty!!!

I did leave out one detail. You do need to get the 5 holes lined up. It seemed like with the 2 terminals to the far drivers side of the tank seemed to work best.

Hi Tom,
Just ordered mine last week, just waiting for it to come in! How did you know what wire goes to each terminal on the sender. Or does it not make a difference?
Can't wait until my gas gauge actually has meaning.
