Default Motor MOunts

How did everyone deal with the fact that the stock motor mount bolt holes are smaller than the diameter of the tube B&B puts in the frame? I drilled mine out with a hand drill (Yuck), and when I swap the engine would prefer to do it cleaner. Any more elegant tricks?

Mine were the same size. If I remember correctly, Bryan gave me the part number for the mounts. Said it was a NAPA part number. Went to a local NAPA store and tried to order the mounts. No such number they said! Called Bryan and ordered them from him. Shipped them to me. Opened the box and found a NAPA box inside. Same number as he gave me over the phone! Jim

Did you need to widen the bolt holes that go to the frame?

My motor mounts were welded to the frame when I picked up the car from B+B. Jim

When I installed my engine the motor mounts were attached to it. Once in place I welded the mounts to the frame. It worked quite well. It was a little hard to weld. I am sure you could just tack it in place, remove the engine and weld the rest of the way around.

What I am talking about are the slots on the two ears of the mounts. The bolt that goes through the tube in the welded on engine mount is larger than the holes in the brackets.

...and there is a left and a right side mount, all though they look almost identical. You can bolt either one on either side, and they will "kinda sorta" fit, but they won't fit "perfect".

Do you know the part number for your mounts? Potato is a carbed vegetable, and I am running a carb on my car What intake are you running on your 351? Are you using the oval air cleaner?

There is a left and right side motor mount! Also, I too had to enlarge my holes for my bolt. Not a big deal given all the other mods I have had to make.

Like Ernie said you can bolt either side to the block and they will apear to fit but not quite. You won't be the first to have to lift your engine back up to switch motor mounts.

What is the effect if the mounts are swapped? Does the engine sit crooked? Does it not settle in (per my other post)? How did you go about enlarging the bolt holes? I am assuming you are reffering to the long bolts that go to the frame mount. How can one tell the difference in the two mounts?

Ohboy,my 351 has edelbrock fuel injection.I was looking at tony branda's oval air cleaner, havn't got it yet.I reamed out the holes with a hand reamer.I also had to get 351 frame mounts from Karen, they are lower and narower than the 302mounts that came with my kit.sorry no numbers on my rubber mounts got'em on ebay.i asked the guy about right and left he said they are the same.I cant see any difference ,so i would like clarifacation on what the difference is before i weld the frame mounts in also. I tried mine both ways and they seemed to work so what is the diff??????????

Ohboy.

Yes, I am referiing to the long bolts and I also reamed mine out with a die grinder. I guess one could use 3/8" bolts instead of 1/2" but I didn't want to do that. I believe the motor mounts have numbers on them and if I am not mistaken the lowest number would be the drivers side ie: (7502 Drivers side and 7503 Pass side). What will happen is that one side will fit and look fine and the other side won't quite drop in or align, Good luck.
