Angry to posi or not to posi

well, I ve driven a hundred miles an the pinion berring went south . i just love it . mo money. So i have to get a new one and the old one did not have posi ,so do i get one with posi- trac loc or torque lock ? I heard they make a banging noise when you turn? Ill change the rear end ratio to 3.50 at the same time. Does everybody have posi ?Does it change the handling? Any info would be nice.

I have had posi (Limited Slip Diff) in my Cobra for years and I have never had any problems with clunking or banging sounds. I believe you are thinking of a Detroit Locker where there is No Slip at all. Fords limited slip diff allows you to lay down two black tire marks if you want but it also provides a certain amount of slippage for normal driving. The posi or limited slip is active at certain torque loads.

I have a 8.8 with 3.50 gears and posi (LSD) in excellent cond I can sell you complete from brake to brake including the emergency cables for $350.00 plus shipping.

Clois

What ratio were you running? 3:50 sounds pretty low for street use, unless you got an overdrive trans. Yup, you DO want some kind of LSD, Posi, Locker or whatever.

The 8.8" does not have a 'pumpkin', by the way, gears are in the axle housing (like GM style).

it had a 3.0 and i could barely drive it on the street.it was 1600 rpm in 5th at 70mph or 1500 rpm at 25mph in 1st. too much slipping the clutch.

Oh, well there it is! The 5th gear (typically a .6) REALLY tall OD. .8 is much better, but even at that, with a 3.0 rear gear, whew, thats still a bad combination for rpm.

My guess is that you find 1st gear with a 3.5 rear gear to be ULTRA low, a real 'tire smoker'. With THAT combination I'd say some kind of posi would be a MUST HAVE! Even with a 3.5 you still might find the cruising rpm pretty low if you have a .6 OD. Sheeessshhh, there is no easy way out of this gearing delimna. Most likely you'll be around 2000 rpm where you used to be 1600, still kind of low depending on your cam profile.

I have a 0.6 Tremec with 3.73 rear gears.

At 100 MPH the revs are only 3000 RPM.

Go for it unless you like flying at 160

I love the tall gears, especially with a small block. Sounds great around town.

Green car on the Pali? Gotta be Flip, a Classic Roadster with 351, engine built by Don Scott. Nice guy, nice car. It's the only green one in town.

Usually just the local 'cruise in's' and an occasional dinner. We were going to form a 'club' but nobody wanted to be 'President'.

Well maybe one more can make a club?

Car is ocean bound, and arrives early next week. Just need to figure out
how to get it home? May have to flat bed it? Don't know if the HI DMV
offers a special one trip permit till I get it registered?

Sorry the above is off subject. By all means get a posi rear!
