Lame Door Latch Handle
Are all of the door handles flimsy? Mine seem very week and I can't even use the knob without bending the arm. I have looked in the various places and they all "look" like the ones that were supplied with the kit. I have it adjusted where they operate smoothly but if it just slightly hangs when opening, it bends the arm. The metal is very soft for a part like this! Anyone know of another source?

I'll agree that the door handles are fimsy, but they shouldn't be so bad that you can't use them without bending the arms. I had a LA Exotic (an early B&B) and they never bent, but I did notice my Supereformance as not as strong.
Great job on the Documentation!! Keep up the good work.

Open up the door latch and remove the large spring. Also, use some silicone spray on the latch and all parts of the mechanism. Makes it much easier to use. Do not loose the small screws when you have the cover off.

Lousy Latches
Hi, I agree. The door latches are flimsy on my B&B kit too.
I took mine apart and it appears that the latch handle bends easily.
If the handle is bent, the handle spins off of the spindle that it rotates on and
therefore has no way to engage or pull the locking bolt open. I took mine to
John's Custom Fabrication, a specialist in building Cobras in Coos Bay Oregon. He says it's easy to fix. Haven't got it back yet. Will post what he does to it to fix.

One question that I have, is it just these from B&B or are the others from aftermarket (Finishline etc..) the same? I may have to to into my fabrication mode pretty soon! (But I want a backup just in case!)

I believe they are all the same. I have looked at several kits and they all seem to use the exact same handles. Mine do the same thing as yours and I have had my kit since Jan. 2000, but I have never had to replace my latch yet.

I am telling you, take the big spring out, it makes a world of difference, and does not affect functionality. Oh yeah, the silicon spray helps the overall "glide" as well.

There are better options out there. I have no problem with the ones on my Kirkham. I am holding another set that I bought many years ago and I would have to try extremely hard to bend it. They are already sold otherwise I would offer them to you.

I agree. My Kirkhams would be quite difficult to bend. I use them without giving a second thought. So, there must be some decent suppliers out there.

I may just have to call Kirkham and see if they will sell a set.

nice update to your build page! my handles bend quite readily also. do your doors shut without using handle to latch it closed ? can you slam them shut ? I have had to grind the side pipe notches 3 times to keep them from hitting durring accelleration and decelleration 1/2" on top 3/8 front and back. P.S. thanks for the honorable mention.

I could close my doors without latching them however I never do. It is always best to close a Cobra door by holding the latch open. I certainly would not dream of slamming the door.

Call the Weavers at Unique Motorcars. The arms of the latches that they supply with there kits are very good. My buddy has a Colorado Carriages Cobra and has the same problem as you. I never gave mine a second thought until he mentioned the problem and we compaired latches.

I slam my doors all the time. It was one of the things that sold me on there Cobra.
