under car exhaust headers

I am running a small block (289) and am trying for a "street" look - no side pipes, no hood scoop. If you have done an under-car exhaust, what headers (make, model #) would be a good start? Any help will be appreciated.

I have it on my car.


I used BBK 'shorty' headers, reversed, and the rest is parts from Dr. Gas. SpinTech muffs and 3" pipe ovalized down to 2.25". There's a couple pics of the system in my gallery.

That's the look! I checked out BBK and they showed nothing before '97. I am putting in a block that came from a '64 Ford Galaxie - 289 c.i. I still need to start with the headers.

Not sure if there's any real difference in the late model '5.0' port and bolt hole spacing, but there might well be.
You could use something other than BBKs and in fact I wish I had because one runner comes really close to my driver's side foot box. Ford headers or other makes for late model Mustangs would have worked just as well for my system.
