Default Engine fit for B&B

Folks,

I have a B&B Cobra with a mild build 351w. It has an Eldebrock Performer intake that doesn't leave much room between the air cleaner and the hood. I am wanting to replace the 351w with a Keith Craft 408w or a 427w. My question is if either engine will fit, height wise, with an Eldebrock RPM or Victor Jr. intake...or, do they make lower motor mounts I can use?? I'm not sure a 427w would work with a lesser manifold. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks Gang !!

Fuelish, Not sure on your engine height question but when you start asking about lowering the engine be aware of how close your oil pan will run above the pavement. Clois Harlan runs a 427 in his Beast as do a lot of other guys. As with many other replys, you can call Bryan at B&B and ask him. I am sure he can answer your question.

I just put my B & B cobra body on for the last time. I hadn't had it on since I mounted the engine. When I put the hood on it hits the top of the throttle body and the edge of the intake on the drivers side. I never dreamed the engine would set to hit as it is a 302 with a cobra fuel injection system. I am going to call B & B on Monday and see if anyone else has had this problem. I guess what I am saying make sure you check out the how tall the engine.

I have a KC 408 that I have in my Coupe and you can do two things fairly easily. One is replace the motor mounts with another set that Bryan has and if you do you may want to go with a different oil pan designed for road racing maybe a Canton that is only 6 1/2" in depth. The other is the simplist and cheapest and that is to go with a DROP BASE air cleaner if you are running a carb. On the FI stuff I really don't know but others have had the FI setup.

Thanks gents. I really appreciate the advise/knowledge. I'm low to the ground now so maybe the drop base air cleaner will work. Just don't want to change hoods.

Thanks again,
Mike

Clois,
Do you know which brand of drop base air cleaner will give the most hood clearance? I was planning on using a Victor Jr. intake on my 351W also.

I am using a 2" drop base from my speed shop here in Tulsa (Grand Prix- http://www.grandprixauto.com ), I think the brand was TFI or TFC but it is their house brand and I think the diameter was 13" x 3" tall. The cost was only $35 or $40 with the filter.
