Purchase questions

Gentleman,

I am seriously considering a Backdraft roadster and have a few questions.

1. Is there cabin heat problem? I am in Fl and do not want to be broiled!
2. Is there anything specific I need to watch for when purchasing a used roadster.
3. What is current market price( sold, not asking) for low mileage / later vin car?

lotusstv, Max is in a mood tonight; don't mind him. The truth is there is no real "market" price -- for any of the different manufacturers. Each car has to be priced on its own merits and condition. Do yourself a favor and take your time on the "Cobra Game." If you don't know what you're doing you could very easily be "taken for a ride."

No heat problem inside the footbox. BDR's really good about that.
Like any other car, used or new, do your research. A great car can be assembled poorly. Again, do your research.
Low to mid 40's is can be seen for BDR 400 - 700 #'s well put together. Again, depending on the level of upgrades the previous owner has installed or had installed, he could easily have over 50k in the car. In the present market there are some really nice cars out there, at very reasonable prices. For Sale section on this site along with Cobra Country are great places to look for new and used cars. Also,
The Complete Guide to Cobra Replicas, 4th Edition is a great source. You'll find it on Cobra Country.

Once you narrow down on a particular car, ask questions of folks in the area it's being sold in. Do they have any knowledge of the car? Who assembled it? Has it been driven hard? Taken care of? Who built the motor? Are there any existing warranties? You get my drift. I looked for a year before purchasing my Cobra replica.

Mtpockets has some good advise, take your time, when you think you have found the right car ask the guys on the forum and take someone with knowledge of the build whether BRD, Superformance, or any other.

Remember you get what you pay for so look very close and ask a lot of questions.

I live in Las Vegas and it does get warm here in the summer but when I have the Cobra out I don't care if it's a little warmer in the footwell. The girls on the strip will just about jump in the car for a ride.

Not knowing you it is difficult to advise, but given your two post I would say:

1) spend a lot more time reading on this site - a lot of good info that will answer your questions.

2) Get to see some Backdrafts in live...

3) Get your priorities in order - color/engine/options...

4) BUT if you are in a hurry

Like others said, take your time. Really learn the market. You will figure out what you really want. Most folks here are happy with what they have. Largely because they followed that advise.

I have seen cars with 1000 miles on the odometer that looked like it had 20K miles, I have seen cars with 8K miles on the odometer and it looked new. The only way to compare is to see in person. Dont look at the car as whole but each panel, component individually. I have seen polished engines where the owner drove in the rain, OUCH is all I can say, sure you can remove all the components and polish.

I would buy the best looking car, little to no paint chips. When it comes to these cars mechanical parts are dirt cheap, paint is very very very very very expensive. I can work on cars I dont have the ability to paint.

Where are you in Florida? The Deep South Cobra Club has some events in Florida that would enable you to see a bunch of Backdrafts and other select cars. With the pounding sun in Florida - you don't even notice something as mild as a warm footwell!!

ouch that hurts man.....but thx for the advertising. My car has never seen the rain.....none of my sports cars have seen the rain. My car is still available but i dont expect to sell it before it thaws out up north....spring. Still has 953 miles as of today. I have it listed locally and expect mid-high 40's will take it. After taxes and a new license plate which is now pretty steep, a new one is only 10K more.

You are 14 miles from Backdraft in Boynton Beach. I don't understand why you don't just drive over there?

I was at Backdraft last week, but the guys there were out on a delivery. I looked the cars over with one of the guys from Speed Fanatix( the engine installer next door ), the cars are real nice but I am not looking for new.

Lotusstv , you should talk to Jay , I don't know if there is any room in the price of the car he posted but I have seen that car and it is perfect & has lots of options ? Maybe you can make a deal ? Anyway good luck with your BDR search. I've had several BDR's and you are going to love it

Lotusstv, I have a BDR in Dallas and the heat has never been an issue, in fact in the winter I could use some! I looked for several months and haven't second guessed my purchase once. You can pay more to get ole Shells "authorization" and a top you'll never use, but for quality, and a great look that may not exactly "mirror" the origional CSX you'll have a roadster that'll cause a mini riot everyplace you stop and will make your face hurt from smilling.

Thanks for the cabin heat info. I know some of the cars get real hot in the foot well and South Florida already has plenty of heat.
