Default MR10 Lexan windshield question...

Hello...I'm curious to learn if anyone has purchased a "Fast Freddie's Fabrications Lexan Windshield" exactly like the one listed here>

Lexan Windshield for AC Cobra Roadster Replica | eBay

If so, can you share with me if it fit correctly and how its holding up? The dimensions seem to be really close, if not exact; 15.99" (side height), 13.60" (center height), 51" (across bottom).

My BDR is #1154, built 10/2012...I understand their might be some slight windshield frame changes that took place over the years, so please share which BDR you have as reference. (Also...aluminum or brass/chrome frame)

Thanks guys.

I installed one in my ERA 289 FIA several years ago. It fit well, and it has held up well. No scratches, no hazing, even with using windshield wipers (yes...while driving in the rain, Cobra's don't melt!)

I would check with REG and make sure that all the windshield frames are the same size. A lot of changes over the years.

I cut my own out of a sheet of MR 10 (do not remember the actual dimensions)

I would never go back to glass.

D, I'm on the road again tomorrow for 10 hours. I have new glass in a box for an inventory car I will measure. Just need some time.

The only reason I did not offer to cut you some is I have done it in the past and unless you are there to install it, I've seen I take some extra trimming. I think the BDR glass has 4 or so different shapes over years.

I have car #209. After the 3rd glass windshield in 1 year (just over 7k miles) I went with "Fast Freddie's". BDR told me it wouldn't fit and FF said it would. It took me 45 minutes to install and that was 1/10 the time it took to fit the glass. It's 15 pounds lighter and has taken some huge hits going a bit over the speed limit ;o) and just scratches to show for it. No streaking from wipers or cleaning. I only use light soap and water mixture to clean the bugs. It has exceeded my expectations.
I think you can buy a sheet of M-10 and use your old windshield as a template. There is a place in locally that will cut it. Most larger metro places will have something I'm sure. Most everyone in Colorado is going Lexan because Colorado uses "pea gravel" and not salt, due to the laws. It's really tough on WS's.

Made a template cut my own, not difficult to do. MR10 is the stuff.

Hello...Quick update and FYI to my original post. I went with Fast Freddie's windshield. It fits perfectly. In case anyone is in need, the link is above.

I don't believe Lexan passes state DOT inspection in PA, other states may vary. I'm just throwing this out there.

Perhaps an issue on initial inspections but it is rare. Subsequent inspections does not seem to be an issue at all (from what I hear).

Sorry to revive an old thread, I need to replace my windshield and I like the ideal of the Lexan version so I do not need to deal with this anymore.
Jay, after reading several threads it looks you are a backdraft dealer, my car is number 35, you mentioned there are 4 or more shapes of windshields over the years, does that mean that the glass version I can get at the backdraft website might not fit?
How can I know the exact dimensions and/or shape of my windshield?

Can't tell. Is it aluminum or chrome over brass?

Feralc,

You can do this sir, there are a couple of threads on this site and probably many more utube videos out there showing the process.
You just need to get a piece of Lexan MR10 on evil-bay (or elsewhere) for about a hundred bucks, make a construction-paper pattern and buy the correct tooth jig saw blade. I did it in about 2 hours and it turned out perfect.

Default Mr10

What thickness is the Lexan, I would assume you don't use the rubber?
