I see its 1K reduced on price but still double a small block cost. Depends what you want and can afford.

Eplatvoet Your Bio said OKl. home of the red man. One of the best machine shops is in Neb. GussFord machine. Why not call and find out a cost for checking out this short block setup. If nothing else, you have a spare bullet for the car. The fix might be only a couple hundred dollars. You could save on shipping my doing the driving yourself. I went 300 miles for some special parts each way and save $100.00. Time is free. If the block center line is still true, they may only need to rebalance the crank shaft and remove the welded metal. This is way cheaper than new short block. Other idea is go with new motor and have this one rebuilt as spare and save for rainy day. Good luck. Rick L. Ps Find a good machine shop and have the block rechecked for damage and center line of bores being off.

Ok boetie luister na hierdie........I had a customer with the same story, in fact the bell housing was even cracking.........I took the motor apart , and started from scratch, ..beginning with balancing everything.....piston, rods,...big and small ends, and yes I have seen machine shops put pistons on rods the wrong way.....there actually is a right and wrong way......especially if the piston pin is not centered, which is common.....welded weights on a steel flywheel are quite common and ok..Also everything that bolts to the crankshaft must be attached at yhe time of balancing...go t the shop qand watch them, the workers get lazy...so the pressure plate will be balanced.......a decent shop will put "punch" marks on all the components so they can be kept in the correct place..All engines have a slight imbalance between 1800 and 2800........

I believe they are neoprene. They have been inspected and are in good condition. The vibration does not 'feel' as if it were the engine mounts. But perhaps we look at them too.

I understand the people that say that some shake is OK but there have been plenty of people in and around my car that do not think the type of vibration I am getting is fine.

Yes the firing order is okay. Don't get me wrong, the engine runs great, if this thing goes, it really goes fast. At both low and high rpm it sounds and drives great. The problem is going through this band of 2000-2500 rpm.

I guess going to solid motor mounts would make things worse.

If the exhaust or any part of the transmission or engine touch's against the frame ..it can feel pretty bad too..

I agree with Rick, check clutch assembly and then flywheel for imbalance.

if your engine is shedding parts like fan belt, or braking brackets like alternator, you have a serious imbalance.

So when you balanced the crankshaft,....did they balance it with the bob weights, the front damper, pulley with bolts and washers and the flywheel ,.pressure plate and all the fastners..all attached......?......and spun on a balancing machine.......???
