There is no provision for keeping the nut from turning except for friction. If you believe that the car has lowered about an inch and a half, you definitely need to take a look at the spring and suspension assembly. There are rubber pads and metal washers that sandwich the spring which, in addition to the spring, may not be in the condition that they should be. The most difficult part of adjusting the ride height should be removing the wheel.
