Angry Fast Fuel injector in a Backdraft Cobra

When I purchased the car it had the Fast Fuel injector installed. Backdraft used the port in the center of the fuel tank to feed the fuel pump. This cost me a new aeromotive pump as it must be gravity fed. I removed the fuel tank and welded a fitting on the back side of the tank at the bottom. Now I have fuel to the pump until the tank is empty.

I don't understand what you are saying, but if this is the same idea as the other thread on another forum, are you saying that you tried using a return style fuel system on a returnless?

That is hardly Backdrafts fault. A competent mechanic, or anyone with basic reading skills would have known that EFI setup requires a return style fuel system.

Obviously (or maybe not) he didn't put the car together (of course, neither did Backdraft), so it wasn't his mistake.

The post on the other forum wasn't clear as to whether or not he went ahead with the Fast Fuel or it was already there when purchased.

But point taken.

The Fast Fuel system was installed by Backdraft. It is a return system and has the correct fuel regulator installed. The system was installed according to Fast Fuel instructions. The problem is that the Aermotive fuel pump instructions states flat out that the system must gravity feed. Backdraft failed to properly install the line from the tank to the pump causing the pump to go bad. Thanks to Aeromotive it only cost $200.00 to replace it.

Backdraft Racing by federal law cannot sell a car with an engine and trans installed. They can only sell a rolling chassis.

That being said whom did you buy your car from? Was it one of the 4 authorized dealers (they buy car from Backdraft and then they install the driveline) of from another non-official dealer or from an individual who buys rolling chassis and drops in drivelines as his side business.

It would be nice for us all to know who made the error....

Kevin....

The car was purchased from Custom Cars in South Florida. The fuel tank is a Backdraft part.

Custom cars botched the installation or failed to properly address the line issue. This is why it is good to have dealer/manufacturer separation.

Custom cars, as their own entity and not acting under backdraft, is fully responsible for your issues OR taking care of and going to bat for your issues.

At any rAte, the installer of the return style system and efi setup should be on the hook. I don't know why they would make you eat the cost of a new pump.

Now how about some pictures and more information on the car? How do you like the fast fuel setup?

The BDR FI fuel tank is designed to be used with an in-tank pump. Using the external Aeromotive pump would've been easier using their standard tank. Why did they use the FI tank if they were using that pump?

The car was converted from a Holly carb to the Fast Fuel Injection. The tank that was used for the carb was not replaced but used for the Injection system. That's the big problem. The fuel enters the line in the middle of the tank on the back side through a line going inside the tank to the sump at the bottom of the tank. The only time it was able to gravity feed was when the tank was full. The pump that was used was to be fed by gravity all the time.

Can you post a picture of the engine compartment and O2 sensor location? I am thinking of converting my Cobra to fuel injection and Fast is on the list for suppliers.
Thanks
