Researching my next toy. Coyote 5.0?

Hello Gang,
I've been a fanatic of 47-72 Chevy & Ford Trucks for a long time and since I'v owned over 40 of them. My new found passion is 65 Shelby's Cobras. Since, I've own so many carburetor powered classic trucks in the past, I would like to take a break from the fumes/hassles, and get something fuel injected. I decided that I definitely want a Backdraft because of the modern the Coyote engines they put in them and their Blacked Out Packages.

What is your opinions regarding these type of modern style cobra's?
Are these type of builds sought after or looked down on in the "Shelby World"?

I have a huge following in the classic truck world, if you want to see some of my cool trucks. Just google my username. " MIAYOTA"

If anyone is selling one that is a few years old, please let me know.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forum Miayota. First things first these are 99% replica or kit cars so to heck with what people think.

I have no experience with a coyote platform but I can only assume it is awesome. If you can get over the car not have the pushrod thumping sound at idle then I say go for it. It is really hard to beat a modern fuel injected platform such as the coyote. My assumption is that the throttle response and overall driveability is heads and shoulders above most of the Windsor and FE platforms. You pretty much don't have to worry about any cam surge, bucking ...or where is my motor going to produce the best power levels. Go ahead and throw a twin screw supercharger like a VMP or Whipple and be done with it. You could make insane power and get double the gas mileage of the traditional setup. I recommend you touch base with Jay at Vintage Motorsports as they seem to be the leaders in coyote development.

With the above being said I love my carbed old school motor but if I honest a supercharged coyote would trounce it and be a better drivers car.

I had a coyote engine in my surperformance with a 6 speed transmission. It drives like a modern engine would. Starts right up drives mild in any condition. Go drive a new mustang and that's what it will be. With a different body.

I love mine...

BTW

No offense but driving a new Mustang is not like driving a Cobra......

No regrets here. Smooth idle is the only downside and ghost tunes may or may not cause issues? I was not taking any chances so skipped that. Having different programs to swap whenever you want is another advantage, not that I do it all the time (or ever), but nice to be able to.

Coyote here. Why? Turn the key and go. It's reliable as heck. Built to modern standards that equates to not spending weekends under the hood like older technology could entail. I have two small kids and don't have the time for that anymore. Gas mileage is amazing. Has a higher RPM limit which sounds sweet at the top range. Also, don't get caught up in the horsepower race like I originally did. I don't care now if my engine doesn't dyno at 525 HP. There hasn't been one time where I wished I had more ponies. Remember that power-to-weight ratio plays an importanat role. These cars are 1200 pounds lighter than a Mustang.

Says who? :D

Cashburn 07-21-2016 03:49 PM

Always interesting to see a car built in 2013 or later with CS signature on the dash...

They sell the block and the heads right now. The car has only been out a few months. AMP performance in az has the crankshafts what else do you need. Build it. Or what till its in the catalogue.

spdbrake 07-21-2016 04:51 PM

I thing the A52XS will probably be that engine since it uses almost all the parts except the crank. See the link above. 314ci and 582hp is downright amazing for a NA motor on pump gas.

The crank is not available as of yet stand alone or in any assy.

Sorry MIAYOTA for hijacking your thread. The earlier Coyote 2011-14 412-435hp engines are great and should give you years of dependable smiles.

Backdraft

I would probably part with my BD/Coyote but car is with its builder in Houston for some paint issues from new if Texas is not too far?
A Loaded build with PS & PB.
If interested I will PM you name & number where car is at present.

Wendell / Lynn

Isn't that the one with the flat-plane crank?

I ask b/c I had heard that they would not be available for a while...to make sure those who wanted a Shelby GT350 Mustang could get one.

I sure have heard great things about the power produced by this flat-plane crank 5.0...and now I see there is a 5.2L version, too? YEE-HAW!!!!!!

Cheers!

Compared to what? A 427 FE?
It's a cobra. Not a Rolls Royce

In my experience, I've no chance of deciphering little vibrations through all that rumbling.

Ps: good to see the forum is back up.
