Default spinner lock cap removal

Does anyone know if a special removal tool is available?

I have a new bakdraft with the 18" Halibrand knock-offs and there are lock caps on the end of the wheel. There are 2 small holes drilled on each side where a socket fits. Looks like a tool is made to fit the head and have a piece that fits into the holes for better grip to remove the lock cap.

Pretty neat, never seen that type hub cap before.
The cap has a BDR logo. Did you buy car new? Spanner wrench I would have thought came with the car.

This should work though

Might want to pull the spinners and make sure there's silver anti-seize on the threads and mating surface chamfers where the spinner contacts the concave of the wheel hub.

I came close to ruining a new lead hammer as mine were pretty galled and had been assembled dry. Luckily did not crack a spinner.

Thanks for the info. Don't think that tool will work. There is anti seize grease on the threads. Here is a better picture. Not muvh depth on the head to use a regular socket. Hoping someone on here has dealt with removing them since they are aluminum

Looks like a 1" or so wrench will take it right off.

Can you take a pic of the side view of that cap? It appears its locking the spinner from loosening. Interesting...

Not trying to have a Duh-huh moment as it does say Lock-cap on the face but it does have my curiosity on how its threaded.

Typ BDR caps are o-ringed on for dust only.

Use a 27mm socket. The holes are supposed to be a for a factory tool to remove, been waiting on that myself.

Let me know when the tool is available. Are the lock caps easy to get off with just a socket?

My Kirkham uses a push pin to lock the spinner. I guess that's their version.

Your push pin only prevents the spinner from falling off, does nothing for keeping it tight.

That's what the wire is for. To tell you if it has moved. How often do the spinners come loose and fall off.

Sorry to jump in on this thread so late, but I also have a recent Backdraft with the 18" Halibrand knockoffs (same as pheagles).

I need to remove one wheel due to a tire puncture, and am not clear if there is a locking mechanism that holds the spinner on, or can I just remove the spinner with the lead hammer? I was wrapping on the drivers rear spinner in a counterclockwise way today, and nothing happened (couldn't break it loose). I know the wheel was off very recently at a repair shop, and anti-seize was used when it was reinstalled.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

No locking device... You spin the spinners FWD to remove them and to the rear to tighten them... This applies to both sides of the car.

I would not use anti-seize on the threads... It makes it more difficult to remove them. Use white lithium grease.

Kevin....

I have the 18" wheels from Backdraft on my car. I do not have the new hub nut but have the 3 spoke spinner. It is somewhat hard to remove using the led hammer. I purchased from Cobra Valley their spinner removal tool and modified it to work on the 18" wheels. It makes the job easy and no chance of damaging the spinners. If interested see my blog on Cobra Valley spinner tool.

I just purchased the Cobra Valley spinner tool and it did the job for me too, highly recommend it.

Now for my newbie question, as I now have the wheel off, there appears to be either grease or anti-seize on the conical section of the wheel center, and on the threads on the spindle. Which is it and is it the same in both locations?
