Default Steering Collar Adjustment - Experiencing Steering Wheel Vibration

I'm experiencing vibration in the steering wheel and I have narrowed it to the steering collar. I checked the u bolt connections under the dash and under the hood for the steering column and they're all tight. How can adjust the collar so I can stop the steering wheel vibration I'm experiencing. You can watch a video clip of the movement I'm getting in the Dropbox link below. Thanks.

funny you should say that had the same thing on my bd found it was the balance on the front wheels way out ,get your tires redone

I had the tires re-balanced and the problem still persists. If you watch the video you'll see that the steering collar has some play which is why I think it's happening.

Default Mine has had this issue

Mine has had this issue from day one ,I bought used- but I have found some issues and fixed them all, that is a lot of play in the collar, curious to see what's in there ,is it bearing or sleeved ? Mine is down to a point I don't worry too much.

that happened to my car. I removed the steering wheel, pulled the hub, took advantage of the working space to realign and tighten the turn signal module, then put everything back together. No more slop.

I don't know what exactly was going on because I didn't have the steering column completely removed to see how it is constructed.

BTW the steering wheel center cap is held on with double sided tape, you can pry it off without causing any damage.

Caster shimmy?

Perhaps a little more caster would assist, asuming that other simple options are addressed first (wheel balance, alignment, loose bolts/joints.

I am leaning towards wheel balance, or caster.

It's either your upper column bearing that needs replacing or the lower bearing assembly.

Can you post a picture of the end of your steering column where it connects to the U-Joint assembly shaft?

Let the experts tell you, but your installation looks different than mine.

More of the black rod showing, more severe angle.
Don't know about related vibrations.

I have more images, if they would help.

edit: isn't that u-joint rubbing the inner fender and/or the hard brake lines there ??

I see what you mean, but no there's no rubbing there. Might be the angle of the picture but there's little room there, enough for it not to rub.

did backdraft have a batch of bad steering column bearing/collar.? Mine has 1433 miles ,lower collar has a lot of play and as collar is a bad design or a bad part, as inner piece of collar barely has any overlap into chrome round collar tube . I Loosened set screws and pushed all the way into steering column and tighten. because of u-joints below there's a little back and forth which makes it loose again , My upper is very loose also, have not taken apart yet. steering and lower bearing/collar move about 1/8 inch when you grab them by hand and move in all directions. hard to believe could be warn out,but seems like it was bad from the factory.

I think I figured out why mine looks longer. I have power steering and it looks like it was extended to clear to power steering pump. Still can't figure out how to solve the vibration issue though.

Yea, I can't see how that's related to vibration either.

is the rack tight to the frame ?

It is. I don't know if you watched the video but I posted a link on my first post. The vibration is coming right around the connection of the steering wheel to steering collar.
