Question for all Black-out BackDraft owners
 
I love the look of the black-out cobras and see that Blackdraft seems to produce a lot of them.

If you own a backdraft cobra that is blacked-out can you comment on how well the equipment has remained black and has not peeled or chipped? I understand that the windshield, housings for the turn/brake lights and other parts are brass and would image the paint would peel from these items. Additionally, I would think it would chip on the gas cap.

Can you determine what type of paint was used or if was the items are powder coat/cerakote. Are these items actually metal/SS and not brass?

I'm a fairly new BDR owner ( 2 yrs, 2100 miles) but so far so good. No pealing and the only chip is very small in a back wheel.

I too am new with my BDR at one year. With the little time that I've had with my car, I've seen no issues with peeling or chipping on the black-out part, with one exceptions, one chip on my rear wheel rim.

With the car in Arizona, you can imagine the rocky environment we're in. No chips or peeling yet on the black out headlight trim, windshield frame, gas cap or side mirror cones.

First off, mine is not a Black out. But if you drive your car any time on the road it's going to happen. get some paint protection film and drive it.

Just to be clear, I'm not referring to the paint job on the body. I asking about the parts that BDR paints black in their black-out packages (mirrors, hood/trunk latches, gas cap, turn/brake light rings, windshield frame). I know some of these parts are brass which I think the black paint would peel or chip over time and I would think the gas cap would chip trying after fueling many times.

So if the paint is not chipping/peeling then I curious if they are using a specific paint or different material.

I have reached out to BDR with this question and if I can buy the Black-out parts from them.

Surprised to hear this, the wheel rim would be the last place I would expect a chip. Do you know if the rims are BDR or another supplier such as Vintage?

I just bought a used 2013 X model with blackout package. It was garaged and has 3600 miles. The blackout items have held up well except for and exhaust guard on the passenger side. It may have been used to step in over the roll cage:(

The parts are powdercoated. There is no brass on a Backdraft.

I don't own a blacked out BDR - mine is the standard blue with white stripes. I love that look because it is closer to the classic look of a Cobra (same reason why I have a carbureted SBF instead of a Coyote motor). Keeps it more 'period' correct. But that's just me.

But if you want my $0.02 on the black, I would think that a satin finish on the powdercoated parts would pair up better with the the glossy black paint of the body. It would provide more of a contrast and allow the powdercoated parts to stand out more from the body. If everything is gloss, then it all 'melds' together.

But in the end, it will look bad ass either way.
