Default Electrical issues

I have been chasing electrical issues the past week. Below is what is going on:

10 VOLTS ON VOLT GAUGE, 12+ AT ALTERNATOR
TURN SIGNAL CAUSE THE TACH TO JUMP UP AND DOWN
HEAD LIGHT ONLY WORK IF I HOLD THE HIGH BEAM BUTTON
ANYTHING ELECTRICAL CAUSES THE VOLTS TO DROP IE FANS, FUEL PUMP, ETC

I WAS THINKING BAD GROUND. SO FAR I HAVE FOUND GROUNDS AT FRONT PASS SIDE FRAME, UNDER PASS SIDE DASH, PASS SIDE FLOOR, MOTOR GROUND AND THE BATTERY.

ANY HELP IS APPRICIATED

More info would help. Use a multimeter.
  1. Is the battery fully charged?
  2. Voltage at battery with engine off?
  3. Voltage at battery with engine at idle?
  4. Voltage at battery with engine at 2500 RPM?
  5. Does voltage at gauge match voltage at battery?

Default fuses

Try to isolate the shorts by pulling out fuses until it is better, then put one fuse in at a time until you find a bad circuit. Also disconnect the rad fan as it can cause alot of trouble if it is wired anywhere the alternator.
good luck

Default Ignition switch?

Had a jumpy tach, and gauges that were incorrect and moved a lot when things were switched on. Checked all grounds from battery to frame to engine to starter to dash to... well you get it. Turned out the starter switch was not fully completing the accessory circuit when turned on. less than 12v across terminals (10.5v as I recall). New switch fixed it for me.

Thanks FlyingGumby! I changed the ignition switch last night and now I get 12 volts. Going to look into the alternator next since the gauge should ready 13 ish volts. Never would've thunked it would be the ignition switch

Trying this again... clubcobra may not have liked an embedded link.

Hadn't considered a marine switch but it would be a good choice. Currently using a Lucas switch purchased from Triple-C but the post is a bit small. The bezel nut barely covers the hole on carbon dash. Will get a billet bezel plate or install a switch for 7/8 - 1" hole like the Cole Hersee.

After a certain amount of post, ~5-10, you will then be able to post links and pictures. Welcome aboard!

Let me know how things work out. you can bring the car to my house and we can trace the electrical if you like, I have been looking for the issue for 6 months. Check your grounds, some are under the car and hard to get to without a lift

Didn’t like the fit of a recently installed Lucas ignition switch made for a 3/4” hole. Searched for a new switch by shape and size of the original key thinking it could be cut to fit an existing locking gas cap.

Found this one for $10… https://www.amazon.com/dp/B084M7WL4H...roduct_details

Fits dash perfectly and the key worked with locking gas cap unmodified.
