Default Fuel Tank Vent

I have an older BDR and when i fill the fuel tank it takes about .5 gal and then "burps" or releases the air by pushing the gas back up the fill pipe --- The fill pipe has a vent to the outside and the fuel winds up dumped either under the car through the fuel pipe vent or over flows out the top -- the fuel pipe vent doesn't have anything connected to it in the pipe --

I have looked for a tank vent and just can't find one - i am certain that one must be there - but i can't find it --- any suggestions --

Thanks

jim

Harley,
I too have an early BDR and I too had the same problem. On mine, the vent hose is inside the trunk next to the filler pipe. It attaches to the tank on the right/ aft end of the tank. It was originally routed going forward, zip tied neatly to a wiring harness until it met the fiiller hose, then turned upward and continued alongside the filler hose. I simply broke the zip ties and ran the vent hose directly to the connection point up on the filler hose, cutting off the excess vent hose in the process. After that I was BURP free and can pump gas as fast as I want.

Hope that helps,
Chuck

Default Same problem..

I have and early model also and have talked to Backdraft about it and they didn't have this solution.
I was actually thinking of changing my tank over to one of the new stainless steel fuel cells for about $500.
I think I will try this on my car tomorrow instead!!

Thanks,
Jetlaag

I had a burp problem also. I also had a fuel guage problem. The guage would showed 1/2 when I looked into the filler pipe and saw gas. This went on for 1000 miles. Every time I filled it up it would "look" full but only take 8 gal.
Well to cure the Burp I cut about 8 inches out of the breather hose. My next fill produced no burp and the tank took 15.9 gal. and my gas guage now says "full"
10 minutes and I cured two problems, not a bad deal.
