Hey'ya everyone. I want to pass on a big thanks to Boudy for letting me in his demo car.
I finally got to drive one of these cars. Had a brief ride with Boudy last November when he and the TCC visited NPR in Louisiana. Little glitch with the engine put it in the trailer before I could get a drive.
I was offered a drive of an ERA. Turned it down. I'd never driven a left hand drive stick before (having driven 20 years right hand drive) and didn't think that was the best time or place to learn.
Last week the TCC were back at NPR and I was 'ordered' to get my a$$ in the car and get it out on the track. Spent a few minutes practicing before I fired it up and headed on out. Made a note to self that "that" button is the horn and "this" button wakes up 420 something horses.
oh yeah and turn on the fuel pump - it helps.
This car was a total blast to drive. Clutch was easy and light with a very nice hookup. The tremec was easy to shift and I didn't even look like missing a change the whole time I was in the hotseat. I wasn't going that quick (hardly needed the brakes on the track) and was concentrating more on a smooth steady consistent line and getting the gear changes smooth and positive. When traffic got a bit heavy or was faster than me I just ran for the pits.
It handled like a dream. Ok I wasn't exactly setting it on fire, but I could tell when and where it wanted to over or under steer. Trailing throttle on the turn-in and throttle steer on the exit - that sort of thing. It felt stable without any bias toward 1 end or the other. That BMW suspension really works a treat.
This drive only reinforced what I had heard about the car.
Boudy - Sue was really disappointed she couldn't make it. I know she'd have jumped at a drive.
Channel 9 broadcast the item last night. I taped it. The video from the track and road trip came out pretty good. I'll get a copy out your way.
again Boudy thanks for the drive.
best regards
Doug
