Default Leaks...........

Man, I'll tell ya, if my car leaks any more fluids, I'll be empty on all fronts...

1. Rear end leaked... Bad seals. fixed. Finally.

2. Eng oil leak. Rear seal. Fixing very soon. Ordered new oil pan gaskets with a new set of gaskets for my new cam order. Also found out that I must have a crack in my valve cover, as engine oil is leaking all over the top of the valve cover. No breather on this valve cover. Although there is a perforated ring on the valve cover where one could be cut out. I think that a portion of the perforation may go all the way through causing the oil leak.

3. Fuel leak. Finally fixed the fuel vent problem, however, while filling up at gas station, the guy next to me says "Hey, your leaking fuel all over!!!". Under the car is a huge pool of gas about 3 feet in circumference. I immediately push the car out of harms way and start it and drive it away. I drive for a couple of miles and stop to check for leak, and yes the fuel tank is still leaking. I continue to drive all the way home and stop in front of my house and check for leak. Yes, still leaking. I drive some more and finally return home to check once again and NO leak, finally.
This is only a problem when I fill the tank up and has happened 3 times. If I put in only about 8-9 gallons it is no problem.

Anyone else have a problem with an early model plastic fuel tank???

4. The tranny has leaked, but that was only because of the angle the car was on while on jack stands... No prob there.

5. Blood leak. Well that was just me cranking wrenches....

6. Knock on wood. The only fluid that has not leaked from my car is radiator fluid... Woo Hoo... Let's party...

Oh ya, on another subject. One of my hood latches fell off the other day... I got home and turned my hood latch to open the hood and cool off the engine, and the latch went all the way around with no problem. I opened the hood and found that the inside portion of the hood latch which was riveted onto the hood was gone.

Man, I'll tell ya, if it's not one thing, its everything else....

I had exactly the same problem. Check your gasket on the fuel sender is secure and sealing properly. If its not, a full tank will spill fuel as it slops about under the sender and willl find its way out.

Cheers,

Tony

Jetlaag

That is just a awful bunch of luck - I have an early BDR and i have had some leaks - but not nearly as many as you

The front breaks leaked - turned out the vent valves where broken in half -

My new automatic leaked - the company agreed to replace the front seal under warranty but i would need to pull the transmission and pay for shipping it to and from the factory - i think they knew my answer

The Tank burped and dumped fuel out the vent - but thanks to help here that is fixed -

I crossed threaded a spark plug and needed to pull the heads to fix the problem so i pulled the engine - i need to get to that front seal anyway -- engine and transmission are fixed and back in car but now it is just tooooo hot to go anywhere -

I think that is it for leaks - I don't look under the car anymore - ignorance is bliss

Nice car Tony!

How many horses does that Beemer motor put out??

As far as the tank goes, did you drop your tank and replace your gasket or just reseat it correctly?? You probably don't have the same plastic tank that I do??

Thanks for the info...
Jack
