Doug, Boudy called me yesterday, had just got off the horn with the shipper from Miami.
BDR # 139 will arrive in Dallas Saturday, July 10.
Heater/engine install Mon-Wed, 200-mile shakedown cruise, fine tuning, tighten every nut and bolt they can reach, then into Boudy's trailer for the trek north. Indigo blue, white stripes, black interior.
I'm looking at delivery to my driveway maybe... Monday, July 19.
Went to my Dr. Monday for my knees, he agrees that they are shot. Knee brace and meds. Started talking about the BDR (he has owned several 70's vintage Porsche 911's) and I got so excited that he gave me a prescription for Librium to calm me down until the little car gets here.
Good shi**, that Librium. Beats breathing into a paper bag. Supposed to take three a day- forgot the last two, so I took 3 about an hour ago.
Engine starts with a KeithCraft short block, add Air Gap intake, Holley carb, MSD ignition, March pulleys, Performer RPM heads, Ford Racing timing set, Comp Cams roller cam, Scorpion roller rockers, Manley HV oil pump, Tremec 3550, Ford Cobra clutch, 3.47 rear-end screws instead of the stock BMW 3.10's.
Boudy promised me 400+ crank HP, waiting for the chassis dyno, the REAL test. Hoping for 320 RWHP.
Guess I should have PM'd you with this, too late.
Did I mention that Librium is good shi**?

Sounds cool UT.
So 139 is in transit as we type ....
Engine sounds a good assembly, and I think you should get 320 to the ground. #42 was laying 337 to the ground and it was a thrill to drive. Maybe next time I'll get to go fast enough to need the brakes. Last time I was more concerned at keeping all the gears and spinning bits inside the box while keeping all the tyres on the track.
Those Miaita's made an interesting whine as they went by .....

Doug- more bad news for UT.
Remember I said that Librium was good Sh##?
Yeah, until the bottom three steps of the stairs.
Shortly after I posted, I lost my Equi-Librium even though I had hold of the hand rail, spun down, cold-cocked myself against a built-in bookcase.
Wife came home an hour later, saw me in a pool of blood, and freaked.
EMT's woke me up, I got my first ride in an ambulance, 14 stitches on the back of my head. Mild concussion. Flushed the Librium when I got home. Ate lots of red meat to replace the blood loss. Went to work three days later out of sheer boredom.
Stitches didn't hurt going in, but I felt every one when they pulled them out yesterday.
Now the bad news.
KeithCraft Racing is still waiting on a couple of parts for my engine build before Boudy can install the heater and take #139 on a 200-mile shakedown cruise. (Probably the Tremec TKO and different flywheel)
Even worse, the 17" Boyd Smoothie rims I had ordered (paid for, BTW) to be matched up with sticky Nittos may not reach Plano for weeks.
It seems this Boyd dude now has his own syndicated Hi-perf TV show and his plant is 8-12 weeks behind on deliveries.
When I take BDR delivery... with luck, the first week of August, I guess... I'll probably be rolling on 15" Cragar-vintage look-alikes and Goodyears.
I hate Goodyears. I only had three blowouts in 35 years, and all three were Goodyears.
That Ragin' Cajun Boudy is jumping through hoops trying to pull this thing together, but if Reg in Florida thinks I'm gonna cut him the final invoice check for a custom-built car I haven't even SEEN yet, he's out of his Africaaner mind.
I'm crazy, not stupid.
Flyin on Codeine right now, a good, honest painkiller.
I figure that if I have all the bad luck, then other BDR buyers will have all the good luck.
And I am dead-a$$ed serious about mounting a gun rack on those twin roll bars.
Should make it easy to find in a parking lot full of Cobras.
You KNOW I will post a picture.
Did I tell you that Codeine is good Sh###?

If I know Boudy he will indeed be finding every hoop he can to get through it and get your car to you as fast as he can.
From my engineering project management I know just how hard it can be to match up suppliers of all the different parts and get them to keep to original delivery dates.
With the HP you'll be getting I do think the TKO is a better choice. The 3550 would quite probably last for years, but the TKO is a stronger box.
When I get mine I better get a TKO cause I'd still be learning all this left hand drive stuff ...... and then there is this heel'n'toe stuff to get to grips with ...... anyone wanna ride with while I practise ?
As for the red meat .... dunno if you have 'Outback' in Ok or not but they have really good steaks. It is an 'aussie' theme , and the meat is probably US but the rack of lamb is from good old NZ
As for the "cold-cocked myself against a built-in bookcase" man that will leave a mark that I don't think will buff out.
regards

Outback does have steaks......... what were we talking about? Oh right, Cobras I didn't know you were putting Boyd rims on the BDR when you finally get them, they will look SWEET! I have only seen about 3 sets of them on hot rods, but they really dont look THAT much different from the Torque Thrust II's, except for where the spokes meet in the center and the centercap. Gun rack on a cobra, thats a bit different, youll have to post a picture of that.

Did a 220-mile round trip to Plano, TX today to say hello to BDR #139 at KeithCraft Motor Sports, the engine builder/installer.
Jeez, what a magnificent automobile.
Indigo blue, white stripes.
The padding on the seats was a bit thicker than my Demo, #42... so I had to let the seat back all the way. (I'm 6'1" and 190)
You wanna feel stupid? Try sitting in a car with no engine or tranny and smiling for the camera.
With God's blessing, maybe 10 days...
Engine is almost together, TKO tranny is in the box, 4-wheel alignment is set up for this weekend, still waiting on the Holley carb. My ragtop evaporated, Reg is scrambling.
Boudy and his wife and son bought me lunch.
She is too good for him, told him so.
People, this is one pretty car.
I can't wait to get a bunch of rock chips under the cowling and a dead possum in the radiator.
And mount that gun rack on those twin roll bars.

Ok I've been there ..... imagine a beautiful sunny day .. we get them all the time here in La., just we throw in 100% humidity for a bonus and there is good old #42 sitting by the track. There's me practising this gear changing thingy with my right hand instead of my 'normal' left hand. Boudy comes over and tells me to quit mucking around and get it out on the track. oook.
Then he walks off. oook. Turn the key on and no fire in the hole. Remember the "Push to Start" so there I go and push the button - to be rewarded with a nice little squark from the horn. Least I know these things have a horn - and a few of the TCC guys know it as well. oook. Wiggle the stick to check for neutral, press the clutch and hit the button by the key. Fire in the hole. What a wonderful noise. Then it stops. oook. Key is on, push the button and it winds - just won't fire. hmmmm. Now I know I couldn't have broken it without even moving the car .... Boudy yells out "Is the fuel pump on?"
Ahhh harrr. Key is still on, so toggle the switch on the dash to 'on', then toggle it to 'off' as it's not raining and we don't need the wipers. Least I'm finding out all these other things work. Toggle the other switch to on, hear the wirrr of the pump and give a bit before hitting the starter. We have 'fire in the hole ..... and ..... we still have fire in the hole' Boudy really wants me to take it out on the track? Those Miata's are going pretty quick ... ohh well. Settled in after a few laps and had a total blast !!!!
It didn't take me long at all to get to grips with left hand drive - so much that I don't think I really need to have it right hand drive. Would be kinda neat though ... having a passenger sittin' in the left seat when you say "you ready? WATCH THIS" Boudy did say RHD could be done though .... just not a T56

UT, glad 139 is finally coming together! If you were smiling like I think you were, just wait until you finally get to hear the roar of your own sidepipes in 139. I can't wait to see that gun rack! Deffinatly will be the first time I would have seen it on a Cobra. Its a good week for me too, we finally got the plot plan sent into the loan office, so in about a week, we should have 5 acres and a whole lot of work to do on the house. I'm grinnen just thinking about having a Cobra in the garage I don't have yet. I can't wait! Good luck with 139, keep us posted!

Doug, I saw your car Saturday and it does look great. As much as you would love to get it on the road don't rush it. I have BDR #93 and Rob worked on my car. I was glad the job wasn't rushed and was done right the first time. My car has over 500 miles and have had no issues. The car is in excellent hands. I know the delays are not in the shops hands but when they get the parts it will be done right for you. Good Luck. Todd S

You saw my car ?? mine ?? Has my wife done something she hasn't told me about ?? Better go check the chequebook. Boudy !!! watch'ya up to ??
Todd S - did it have any 1 of the engines I'm trying to decide on? I kinda like the idea of the 430HP 390FE as it's officially a BB , but then for the same price I can drop a 460HP 351 in it, or a 430HP FMS392.
I hope it's Titanium with black stripes.
Something tells me though that it's actually Indigo blue, white stripes and has UT's name all over it. sigh
regards

Hey, Other Todd-
If you were at Keithcraft Motorsports in Plano, the Indigo Blue BDR with whites stripes and grubby pawprints all over it is my latest love, #139.
I agree, Robb seems to be doing a most excellent job on the powertrain!
(I got to inspect my half-finished engine while he was gone to lunch.)
I'm still wondering where my ragtop is, though...

Doug I, #93 is Titanium with black stripes and the 430 hp 392 with a 3.91 gear in the back. The car is very quick with that set up. Todd S

Rod- have they wiped the dust and grubby fingerprints (mine) off the car yet?
I refuse to push Robb, the Master Mechanic at KeithCraft Motor Sports in Plano. I have done a lot of research ( don't tell him) and I will NOT put my foot in his back.
Stand back and let the Master do his work, chowderhead UT.
But I want my little car. I've waited almost six months.
Jeez, you gotta see the cars they have in their showroom!
My little BDR is Trailer Trash compared with some of the vehicles they allowed me to touch... because I was big, old, mean, in a bad mood, and had 14 stitches in my head, the knee brace clinched it.
A most impressive shop.
But I am a big ugly intimidating bastard old fart, you take your chances.
I am impressed with KeithCraft.
When I know, you will know, my friends.

Finger prints are all gone. Your visit must have inspired them to put on a “Do Not Touch” sign on the cars. The LoneStar at Plano does have a nice paint – real nice.
I just ordered my Keith Craft engine this week. As far as the car, it will be a BDR as well – just can’t land on a color.

Rod- you got sumpin' against Indigo blue/ white stripes?
The next time you visit Keith Craft Plano, look at that red gorgeous beast by the back door. 12-years-old, 300(!!!) miles. She's wearing "my" Boyd 17-inch Smoothies.
No, the 17's look GREAT on a modern Cobra replica. Surprised me too. (I'm 53)
My baby sat in the front row with 15" BFG's. Looked great, original, 1960's, all that crap.
The red show car with the 17's sat about... 2 " lower than Baby. Side-by-side, ... I can wait another 60 days or so for the 17" Smoothies and Nittos.
Rod, I think you ordered the engine from the right outfit.
I'll let you know in 10 days or so if you ordered the CAR from the right outfit.
After almost six months I at least got to SEE my BDR... even though the $1,000 ragtop disappeared. At least the snaps are in place.
So far, I am well pleased.
Good or bad, I WILL post.
