Doc, looks like you had some stiff competition as well. Though I must say your car looks great flanked by a Pantera and a GT 350! Must have been one of those days! Congrats! Steve

Thanks Guys for all the kind comments. Yes I am having a ball and plan to have a lot more fun too. I am sceduled to road race the Cobra on Friday (the 26th) at Firebird in the GREEN Group with ProAutoSports and I am also racing it on Sunday (the 28th) at PIR with the NASA group HPDE 3 or 4 (as yet to be determined).
Both tracks have a full 3 day race schedule this coming Thanksgiving weekend.
I just had some new static cling race numbers made for the Cobra to use that weekend. #60 (for my age) HA
By the way, my 65 Shelby sitting next to my 65 Cobra at the car show is mine also and it took the 2nd Place Award for "Best Exhaust Sound" only to be beaten out by a full blown 550 inch big block T/A Drag car with 6 ft wheelie bars. Everyone loves the electrically operated remote cut-outs I have on the Shelby. They are too much fun!
Here's some photos of the 3" exhaust system on my Shelby

I am just now getting things setup to do some video clips for when I race the Cobra this coming Thanksgiving weekend.
I will also take some of the Shelby at it's exhaust system and see if I can put a short clip together of how it sounds. I'll post it here on Club Cobra when and if I can get it done successfully.
I'm just learning and have to have my step son help me edit it.
Here is a clip of me racing my Shelby that you might like. It takes awhile to load so be patient. It's a rather long video.

Thanks
Doc

I am going to try to get some good ones this next time.
I got some film footage from my race in Las Vegas but
I hand held the camera and it was too jerky to be good.
I have a better mounting system now.
Will post some if I succeed.
Thanks
Doc

Doc, what kind of rpm/speed does the BDR run in 1st gear? With that really LOW 3.9 rear gear and I assume a pretty low 1st gear in the 5 speed trans, it must be a stump puller!
If you know the trans 1st gear ratio I would like to know.
I ran a 3.5 rear gear with a 5 speed and 1st was almost useless it was so low. I could easily start in 2nd, and often did!
Now my ERA has a 3.31 with a really TALL 1st gear (close ratio top loaders are that way) and now I'm on at the other "extreme" end. TO tall for a good "hole shot", but it does make it easier to control wheel spin (and thus spin outs).

For Excaliber-
I am sorry but I don't know what gear or ratio I have in mine in 1st gear. Maybe Reg Dodd at Backdraft could answer that one for you since he installed the trany. It's a basic Tremec 3550 I believe.
As for speed and rpm's in 1st I really haven't got a clue because frankly I'm too busy to look when I get on it in 1st. HA If I think of it I will try to pay more attention next time and post it here for you.
I can tell you this, when you hit it you better be looking straight ahead because you've got a hand full of monster trying to tear the hell out of the road and trying to run over anything in front of it.
As the saying goes, "Buckle up, shut up and hang on!"
The older I get - the more fun I have. HA
"Doc"

For Mike-
As you may have seen Mike, I've spent lots of money on building my Shelby but I must admit, the $375 that I spent for the Remote operated- electric cut-outs has been the most fun money I've spent on the car. They are a blast!
Everyone at the car shows and races loves them. They're so easy to work and gets people's attention immediately when I hit the button to open them.
It's fun going to a car show, where there is a big croud of people. I pull into the lot like everyone else and then hit the exhaust cut-outs and everyone rushes over to see what's going on.
At stop lots they fun too! Especially when some KOOL kid has a car that sounds like my lawn mower (a ricer). I hit the cut-outs and they often turn the corner and go away very quietly. HA
LOTS of fun.
Doc

The cuts outs would be good closed while going in/out of the neighbourhood, and open to let the engine breath so it can run like it should. There's nothing better than a happy neighbour - or worse than an unhappy one.
THAT'S why you got them ... right Doc ?
Drive on - quietly or not at the flick of a switch.
