Anti-theft measures or not
Have had a few customers asking about anti-theft measures. I hate alarms but maybe they have a place? I have installed a few different kill switches and disable items.
I feel cars are either in garages with security alarms or at shows or runs were everybody is watching each others cars. Mainly for the kid on a scooter with paint rippers on the handle bars or a baby carriage being pushed by the kid who should be strapped into it but safe from theft.
What to you guys think? Do you need hidden kill sw. or starter, fuel pump disabled and so on?

If it is going to be parked out of sight for more than a few minutes you definitely need something to disable the car. Any punk could hot wire one of these cars in well under a minute.
I used the removable battery disconnect switch along with a fuel pump switch. I don't like the fuel pump switch by itself because they can still get it going with the fuel in the bowls.
If possible, I always asked somebody to watch my car. More than a few hotels let me park in the drive through over night where it was in view of the night clerk and/or security guard.

Yes. mount it where it isn't obvious what your doing when you set it/them too, as people generally will be watching you.

anti-theft
Put a lo-jac in the car, if it is covered in your area!!! There are threads about cars being stolen at shows. Tow trucks are the fastest way to get a car. I have this and a 20 ton choker cable that goes through the frame and around a phone pole, I beam, or my truck, My car in not running away. If someone is lucky to get it lo-jac in the car. The rest is personal, any piece of crap that takes my car is not going to jail. Any other questions Rick Lake

Thanks all,
I am looking at the remote powered switching unit with multi channel s. A key fob runs a box that can turn on/off 3 to 5 devices. More channels are available but with push of key fob you enable alarm?? Fuel pump - starter circut - coil circut and so on Via Relays for high amp stuff.
The cost of this remote switching unit starts at 40 bucks and up. Will handle from 1 to 30 amps and answers point of people watching you flip all the hidden dis-able toggles starting your car. Rick L's point is a good one.... but ya have 2 catch em !! I still do not think the alarm or siren helpd much though, you can add unit that dials your cell phone for the real fix.

Jeff Try viper alarms for what you want. As far as the catching them, 500 grams from a 50 caliper long gun will do just fine, range about 1000 yards. They will wish for a safe jail cell. I like the old west, when you steal a horse, you know what you are getting Rick Lake

Had a friend who had his new engine & trans stolen from his garage while he slept (even opened the garage door w/o a sound).
Best idea I've seen is a relay that requires you to turn on the parking lights (to activate it) before the ignition. After the car starts turn off the parking lights. Only way to restart the car is to know to turn on the parking lights first.

Take reasonable precautions and make sure your insurance is up to date. The Viper or Clifford alarms with dual zone radar will keep ooglers at a short distance too. Though sometimes that also is a temptations totrigger it because it's so cool.

Rick L. You need to live further south than the Peoples Republic of New Jersey where it's legal to defend yourself.
39 States have concealed carry permit laws that read "Shall Issue". NJ isn't one of them.

Rick,
That cannon going off will wake everybody up for a square block. Hell we live in the new wild west where you would rather leave home without your AMEX than your CCW permit. My 9MM is not only a little quieter but I have 17 chances to get it right.
Jack the true affect of the a deeper southern exposure from Ricks' place is the effectiveness of NAFTA. If they collected a duty on the stolen cars going across the border our deficit would be gone.
