Turn signals- again
OK, I'm too lazy to look up the posts.
BDR #139 has a totally crapped-out turn signal system, all I can remember is that it is (I think) a late-model VW system.
My restorer/painter guy is clawing his head raw trying to put me back on the street.
After 16 weeks...
AARGH!
Do we try to fix or do we replace?
It's an insurance job, but I want to drive Gunrack last month and I will do whatever it takes!
My paint guys are good but...
A VW turn-signal system on a car built in S. Africa?
We are rural Okies, here, Y'all.
The nearest V-Dub dealer is Dallas, 120 miles.
No way.
Input?

I would imagine Reg at Backdraft would be able to shed some light on this for you, UT. Might even send you a whole new T/S system.

I gotta think it can't be too hard to do what I want to do - replace it with a 3 position toggle for the turn signals and a push button on/off for the hi beam. Won't be self-cancelling but I could live with that. Of course I haven't tried it yet.

The original cars used a Volkswagon turn signal system. My street car uses the button on the turn signal stalk as the horn button.

Update:
Called Reg, he tried to explain that my BDR was delivered to the US with a right-hand turn signal system on a left- drive car and that it was modified when it hit Dallas.
(???)
Sorry Reg, had an emergency call while we were talking tech stuff.
Look, I swing the indicator up to the 11 o'clock position, and hold it there, and I get right turn signal.
I swing it down, all the way down, and bring it up to to the right to the 1 o'clock position, and hold it there, I have left turn signal.
Try that in the middle of a turn in traffic while steering and shifting.
Sorry, Reg, this was a flaw when I took delivery from my dealer.
He's a great guy, but the dealership is belly-up. And I'm swimming with sharks.
Now the local cops have a hard-on for the little blue car and UT,... and I NEED those turn signals.
I'm the nicest guy in the world...
but I've had this problem since August, 2004.

UT,
Give Richard Oben a call at North Racecars, 816-436-1610 (Kansas City). He installed a self cancelling VW setup in my car in about an hour that works perfect. He sells the kits and can explain to the Okie mechanics just what to do. I have to be in Tahlequah next weekend and could bring it down.

Bernie, thank you!
I'll call him tomorrow.
I would love to meet you and feed you but Talequah is a long, hard 2-lane pull from Atoka.
