Default Most distinguishible feature

Just curious, what do you BDR owners think is the one thing that maybe distinguishes our BDRs from other makes.
That would be with the hood, trunk and doors closed. Is there something you look for in a croud of other Cobras that would make ours easy to identify?

Letitbe,
Just look at the Backdraft Racing floormats. On the serious side, it would be the license plate at an angle-covering the trunk handle, and the spiffy steering wheel.

letitbe and BonitaCobra,

Well you can always redrill the holes in the license plate brackets and move it up higher like I did. Then it clears the plate. I still had to notch my license plate frame to fit over the handle! The original way is nuts. Apparently they don't know what size plates we have here in the U.S.

The wheel is great for big guys to fit under, but I am not sure I really like the looks. It does make it very easy to spot a BDR though! I think it sticks out too high from the dashboard. Oh well, just my opinion. Also, I've had alot of people ask what kind of wood is so orange in color. I told them it comes from the rare South African layrubberis tree! Ha!

I think it has just about the best profile of any replicas. In fact I like the way it looks better than the originals. Especially true around the rear wheels. The bodywork seems to cover more of the lower front portion of the tire than the original. Also, when you adjust the suspension pretty low, it gives a really nasty look to the whole car.

The rollbar, steering wheel, and the gauge layout were the features I remember about the Backdraft from Carlisle last year.

I beleive the sexy ASX of the BDRs are the most outstanding feature. Most cars just roll under were the BDR rolls and flares. A buddy of mine said when first seeing the car said this car has a sexy ASX on it. So sexy ASX is my vote

The license plate over the boot handle thing-

139's plate is butted up to the bottom of the plate light, I have bent it up enough to make it look tacky as hell.

My mechanic is looking for a spring-loaded plate frame from an old Chevy, I believe.

He just finished essentially rebuilding my entire pedal assembly and we are arguing about re-installing the wind wings.

I'll start another BDR thread, I want opinions and don't want to clutter this thread up.

Talking Sexy Curves!

I have to say:

1. The Sexy Curves of the Body
2. Stainless Steel Button Head Screws on the Hood & Scoop
3. The Stainless Steel Sidepipes with the Heat Shields
4. The 92" Wheel Base (not easy to identify)

And, If I had to pick mine out of a crowd of Cobras, it would be my Pewter/Charcoal paint scheme.

The factory steering wheels and aluminum windshield frames are dead giveaways that it is a Backdraft. Like mentioned before, the 92" wheelbase is very hard to detect (great job Backdraft). I have replaced both the steering wheel (with Motalita) and windshield (chrome plated) on mine for a more authentic look. The license plate can be notched a little both top and bottom and it will fit properly instead of covering the handle.
A very distinguishable feature that can't be seen, but can be felt is the great BMW suspension and rear end. Anyone that has ridden in my car that has a different Cobra makes comments about what a great ride the Backdraft has.

I agree with the rear of the car comment. I have seen rows of Cobras and nobody IMHO does the rear flares and rear valance better. Seeing the gas tank hanging down on some of the other makes isn't a good look.

The 4 point harness attachment is also a quick identifier. At first I thought it was a little too industrial looking but now I love the way it looks and the way the upper belts feel.

The small wheel is also a dead giveaway. I'm 6'-2" so I'm not going to be changing it anytime soon. It's the only Cobra I can bring my left knee up between the door and the wheel with my foot flat on the floor. We've got over 10,000 miles on our car and these things matter, especially when you're behind the wheel for 8 plus hours a day.

Lastly the top. Look as some of the other companies tops and then look at Backdraft.

Actually, this is why some other makers cars have a "hunchback" to accomodate the US license plate size. The original was a foreign car you may recall

They made a BDR trunk for the US plate with the higher hump and it looked silly

Can you or anyone that has a Backdraft please tell me what steering wheel spline is used in the cars? I dearly want to replace my Moto-Lita wheel with another brand and type and I do not know what installation kit to buy in order to do that. I really want to reoplace it with a Grant or Momo wheel. Does anyone know what kit will work to replace the one in the car that came as stock? Is the column in the Backdraft a Flaming River or Ididit, or GM, or??

Hi, I just changed my wheel out on my BDR. Use fishing line to pull the center cover off your wheel, remove the center nut on the boss then use a steering wheel puller to pull the boss off. Once off have it drilled to match your new wheel's pattern and replace. Keep the puller until you have the wheel properly centered, it'll take a couple of trys to get it right. Watch where your turn signal cancellation pin lines up (you'll see it on the back of the boss) if your lucky your turn signals will continue to cancel, if not you'll just go into manuel mode.

Profile! Everyone mentions the ass but notice how the nose points down more between the front arches.. Looks so mean. Love the ride. My friend with an FFR mentioned how he can barely drive over Pell bridge. I just am happy to have chosen wisely with the BDR. I'm 5'7 and my seat is positioned a little forward, but I still love the 92" wheel base and the extra space in the cabin. I managed to get a 80 year old guy in my car who is like 6'2 and stiff in the joints. Gave him a ride he won't forget anytime soon
