Default cobra air cleaner

Does anyone know if there is a clearance problem with an oval cobra style air cleaner used on a BDR. The car has a 302 (342 stroker)?

You should be fine with your clearance unless you are running a big spacer between your carb and your manifold. I had looked at a SB BDR with the large oval air cleaner last year at the Hot Rod Tour. I ran one on my B&B for a couple years as well when I ran a 302.

Thanks Clois, for the feedback. I noticed you are in Tulsa. A guy I know in OKC built a cobra a few years ago with a 427 FE in it and sold it to someone living in Tulsa. Do you happen to know who it is?

I bought a new BDR in January and it is still sitting in Florida in in The BDR shop. I live in Mexico (Playa del Carmen) but I am from OKC. I will probably be back in OK this summer and may have the Cobra there too. Sounds like there are quite a few Cobras in OK and hopefully the CLUB will come together soon. Cant wait to close down here and get behind the wheel of the new car.

Good luck with the club and keep me informed.

Just be careful with the carb spacer selection. The rear of the cleaner will have to tuck under the cowl area lip. But there are plenty of BDR's with the oval cleaner in them.

This one comes real close but it does clear:

Cashburn,
I don't mean to hijack the thread but did you add the hood prop/support or did BDR get away from the gas shock?
Thanks
David

Good eyes! The gas strut is history. All our cars have been with the prop rod, our lowest was #188. Don't know offhand when the actual switch over was in production though.

Is it the one from Fineshline or does BDR produce it themselves. I would like to get one since my hood has blown down a few times during some car shows. ouch.

I believe BDR is manuf. themselves now. However most if not all parts that Finish Line sells can interchange, since they are often the prototype.

RE: Air Cleaner,
My BDR has the 392 crate motor with a Holly Street Avenger 770. I bought the Ford Racing small oval air cleaner and it clears just fine.
