Default road race tires

Is it a horrible idea to do my first open track event with BFG Drag Radials in the rear - 315/35-17 ? I know they're not ideal but would they flat out fail and cause a wreck? My car came with them and I will not buy them again, but I'd rather not buy new tires right now. Front has BFG T/A KDWS. I'm heading to Pocono with PDA in August (www.pdadrivingschool.com).

Default YES,

IT'S A HORRIBLE IDEA.
See thread titled "180 mph tires".
A Nitto drag radial failed on the author at a road course. Pictures included.
Don't even think about it.

That's what I thought. So, anyone ever install Sumitomo HTR-Z's and could share their thoughts on them? Tirerack's got them on sale.

NewBDR,
My BDR came with Nitto Drag radials on the rear and Nitto 555 on the front. I have done 4 opentrack events on them and think they are fine when you are starting out.
I have ordered new rims where I will mount slicks for future track events.

I don't know anything about BFG's but if they have the proper speed ratings, I think they will be fine for your first open track event.

Don' t jump out and buy something on sale. Go to these events and talk to other drivers see what works for them.

Good luck.

PS I know a guy with a big block ERA that runs Drag Radials front and back, and they may even be BFG's.
