I'd contact Brent Lykins. His motors reputation precedes him and and he uses name brand parts and not Taiwan or China knockoffs.

Although this is one of lowest priced motors from his site, it is complete and looks to only need a flywheel, trans, bellhousing to be a true drop-in by you.
He also sells those items. (saves you from doing run-out placement of the bellhousing).

Double check that polymer gear on the distributor. You might want to ask some questions on that.

Also, spring for the best heads you can afford. Maybe port work on those heads, or maybe a better set of heads. The difference in cost may be fairly minor. It's worth a conversation, if you could afford a few hundred more.

Still helpful to a newbie like me. I just bought my cobra. 427 Iconic. I've only driven it around the block once so far. Rainy season in FL.

Composite / polymer gears are widely accepted for ALL camshaft types.

The composite gears are softer than their corresponding metallic counterpart, Brian. The composite distributor drive gear needs to drive both the distributor and the oil pump. The distributor takes little to no power to drive, relatively speaking. A stock oil pump that pumps oil at only 50 psi or so takes a lot of power to drive and the composite gear becomes the weak link. A high volume / high pressure aftermarket pump would be death on a composite gear. The best solution is a metallic gear that is compatible with the material the camshaft gear is made from.

The silicon bronze gears while sounding like the best choice will rapidly wear when asked to operate in a non race car sort of environment. Even in a race car environment they need to be regularly maintained because they still wear, producing unwanted changes in the engine's ignition timing map.

I’m not a fan of polymer gears either and I am no gear head. Take it from the experts, still like the package and price from Lykins.

15 years! and still going I have a 427 stroker man o war block but, that said I would go 408 same hp more reliability from what I have been told. By the way no problems with my motor only the guy behind the wheel. Just keep it ford IMO.

Yes it could but completely overkill. There have been a few real deal 427 SOHC motors in Cobras. You can easily fit a big block from 427-600 ci if you want but the small block stroked 427 are lighter and make great power( 500-600 hp)

I have also put a modern coyote modular in a superformance and it was faster than stink with “only” 460 hp

I'm running a 351W/427 Dart block. Financially, it's the best bang for the buck.

Just order a Craft Performance 363 (Dart Block) stroker to replace my 347. Lance says it will easily make 500hp on the dyno. The advantage in my case is it just drops right in, same dimensions and accessories as any 302 based small block, same deck height. Near Big Block power with all the weight and packaging benefits of a 302
