Radiator and fans have both been changed car was getting too hot with the stock units, after upgrading both, the engine runs at 90c all day. As for the engine being too heavy, I was told since just about everything on the engine except the block was aluminum that it would not weigh much more than most stock engines. I don't profess to be a engine expert, and I just use the car to play around and enjoy, the engine combo is great and runs better than I dreamed it would.

Does look like they installed it rather forward, perhaps to get the toploader in the tunnel (due to it's shifter setup). I really think a TKO600 would have made the process easier (and you'd have another gear, etc.)
But I'm playing armchair here...

How the heck do you pull enough air for a 427 through that tiny air filter? I bet if you dyno it you will pick up a ton of HP with the air cleaner off.

Have not had a chance to dyno but plan to in the near future. Do you think the two small air cleaners will provide more air flow was thinking about changing to them.

There's going to be a dnyo at the Reptile Roundup. That would be a good opportunity to try a couple of different combos.
I'm running the Cobra oval air cleaner with the 3" thick K&N filter.
I had to modify the base a little and it fits under the hood on a 351 windsor style block. FWIW.

So you had to change out the radiator and fans...hummm. I wonder if they have changed the set-up since then on the later cars. Which radiator and fan did you end up going with?
Who built your engine?
By the way, it looks great Airvolts!
Cheers

Radiator is made by Fluidyne not sure of model number, I'm not sure if you need to replace both. We tried fans first and it was still running to warm so we replaced radiator. We could have just replaced radiator only and it might have been enough.

Airvolts,
Glad you brought back as I was not around at the time of the original post. I do have to agree w/ Cashburn on one thing...........a 427 is an FE, just as a 429/460 is a 385 series. But............BOTH are BIG Blocks!!
I could not resist.

Guys, A Big Block is dictated by the industry and history. Ford has always called an FE a big block. No grey area here. Stand up at a Cobra even and call an FE a small block and you will get stoned (with rocks) and taken away to the funny farm. No offense meant, just clarification. Everyone (most) knows that the FE and FT family of Ford engine, IS and has always been referred to as a "big block" The term "Big Block" refers to the engine family/series which is bigger than other family of V8 engine of that era. 260-289-351 ci engines will always be "small blocks" even if you bore and stroke them to 460 ci......It is still accepted in the performance industry as a small block. Cubes does not dictate calling it a big or small block......THE BLOCK DOES.
The smallest big-block Ford was the 332 (of 331.8 inł (5.44 L) true engine displacement) with a 4.0 in (101.6 mm) bore and 3.3 in (83.8 mm) stroke. It was only used in Ford-brand cars in 1958 and 1959. A two-barrel version produced 240 hp (179 kW), while a Holley four-barrel output 265 hp (198 kW).
So, yes, you can have a 427ci stroked 351W and it is still a small block engine, even though a 332ci is actually a big block........have I confused everyone including me?
Great looking BDR, first I have ever seen with a BIG BLOCK. Enjoy it.
Tony Martin, jump in here and verify the above. I know you know what a big block is.
Doug

Thats What They Say
GUYS,
390FE AND ALL DIRIVITIVES (UP AND DOWN) ARE SURE KNOWN AS BIG BLOCKS.
302,351 AND ALL DIRIVATIVES (UP AND DOWN) ARE KNOWN AS SMALL BLOCKS.
AND I GUESS A 460 MUST BE A BLOODY BIG BLOCK!!!! NEVER THE LESS ALSO KNOW AND REFERED TO AS A BIG BLOCK.
WHAT DO U ALL THINK?
PS. THAT ENGINE INSTALL LOOKS LIKE THE REAL THING TO ME.
WISH I COULD TAKE IT FOR A RIDE!!
