Help, my car stalled out today
Here's the scoop. Car stalled out this afternoon in traffic. This is my first time in traffic and it was a bit warm. Engine temp reached 95-100c and would not start back up. Let it sit for 10 minutes, started right up. Ran on the freeway back to the house no problems, car never got above 80c. Got back into town, sat a light for two cycles and died again. Same thing. Let it sit for 10 minutes started right up. Here's the package. 302 with Edlebrock heads and intake, Holley 600, MSD ignition. Pretty straight forward, I need help narrowing it down. Anyone have a similar problem in the past? Fuel, overheating the carb and vapor lock? Electrical, ingnition module expanding and causing the shutdown? Still working some minor bugs out. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Where does your fuel line run from the factory line to the carb? Electric pump or mechanical?

If you have a bad coil, when it heats up the wires will expand and cause a short. When the motor cools, the wires shrink and the coil works again---until it gets too hot.
Grab a multimeter and fire up the beast. Measure the plus and minus sides of your coil. Then, head out for a drive around your neighborhood, and drive it until the engine dies again. Check the plus and minus side of the coil. If it's not reading the same as before, you've got a bad coil and have found the culprit. Wait for it to cool, drive home and change the coil.
The same may be true of the MSD, but I don't know how to troubleshoot that.
Good luck,
Dangerous Doug

Ok, I have some places to start. I also have an electric fuel pump. Today I leave for Vegas, Monday I start trouble shooting. Thanks to everyone for the help. I'll post when problem is solved.

Mine did the same thing. Tracked it down the the MSD 6AL box. If you have one installed, this might be your problem. Moved mine from engine compartment to under dash. These things are notorious for not liking heat.
I would check the fuel to rule it out and then get the MSD box checked out.

What Dsprint said... Leave the gas cap OFF and try to duplicate the trip you took or replicate the conditions you stalled out in. If you don't stall your tank isn't venting properly and fuel isn't getting to the carb due to a vacuum condition in the tank. drill a hole in the cap which allows air in or get the tank vented to solve the problem.

Backdrafts have vented tanks.
So the coil and MSD ideas are likely possible too. Where is your MSD mounted? We have a proper aluminum plate we manuf. custom to mount the MSD in a cool, out of the way place.

What's the best way to get your MDS box tested?
My car won't rev pas 5300 , I have an adjustable rev limiter set at 6,200.
Thanks,
John

Check the MSD web site, they have a support area that gives a good rundown of checks.

mtpockets, check to see what fuel pump you are using, if you are using a holley. CHANGE IT. I have had two holley's crap out on me that very same way. I would drive it and it would shut off, 5 to 10 min. later is would start again. I would look here first. Then check your MSD box.

Eliminate all variable in the ignition before moving on.
IF YOU DO NOT ALREADY HAVE THEM, GET THE RUBBER ISOLATORS TO KEEP VIBRATION FROM BEING TRANSMITTED TO THE MSD BOX.

As others have suggested look at the MSD. I have seen this in another car, though that one had a Pro-Comp box

mtpockets,
What has become of your stalling problem? I am sure there are more people than myself interested in the outcome.
