Default Strange noise in my BDR

The other night I started hearing a strange noise comming from the engine area. It was only at a certain point as I was going to shift. It sounded like either the header springs were viberating or a supercharger when you decelerate. After doing some looking around I finally found the problem. It was a vacuum leak at the vacuum port gromet on the power brake booster. It seems that only at a certain point the engine viberation or movement would allow the leak to occur. I guess I'm going to get some black silicone and make a small bead around the gromet where the plastic fitting goes into the booster unless someone has a better idea. I also found that's why my idle speed has been somewhat erratic.
Just thought I would let you'll know.

David

go to hi-lo or autozone and look in their help section. You can find a new seal, i forget it is similar to a pvc valve grommet or maybe the rubber things you use to protect wires when they go throught the firewall so they do not get cut.

Does the plastic fitting that goes through the bushing into the brake booster (the one that connects to the vacuum line) just pull out?? Is there any special tricks or words of advice before I try to remove the gromet?

Thanks

David

Yes, it should just pull out ( well, at least they have for the past 30 years ).

May I suggest a bead of silicon grease for the seal leak if it is small and the grommet appears to be the right one.

I feel the gromet is the correct one since it came on the car from Backdraft, but it almost seems like it may have shrunk or something because where the plastic fitting( I think it is a check valve) goes into the gromet it is fairly loose. If you move the hose at all you can hear the sucking noise.

you will probably rip the grommet when removing the plastic piece since it has a big lip on the inside, that is how my was damaged
