Default Backdraft/Vintage #340 Oil Change question

I finally have covered 500 miles and im doing my first oil change.
The engine is a Roush 402R.
I noticed a drop of oil on the oil drain bolt, but undid it it and let the oil out.
Once the oil had just about finished draining out I noticed that the top of the threaded raised part of the sump where the oil drain bolt screws was uneven. In fact i cut my finger on it when i ran the tip of it across the top. Just to be clear, if you were to imagine screwing in the drain plug, the part of the sump that would actually contact the bottom of the bolt is not flat or even and has sharp ridges.
Is this just a normal thing that i shouldnt be worried about or should i get a dremel out on it?

Thanks a lot in advance

Default Backdraft/Vintage Oil Change Question

limeyd, I had the same situation! It looked like when the threads were cut into the bottom of the oil pan , it left a rough and sharp edge. I have 2 drains in my oil pan and I did grind both flat and changed to an aftermarket plug from NAPA. Cheap fix and no oil leaks. Post some pic's of your car when you can! Snakester

That's a Canton pan in disguise. I have seen a drip of oil pretty common on the bolt head. It would not hurt to clean the rough surface (probably from their tapping). Careful not to get into the threads at all.

As Snakester pointed out you can get some fancy plugs that have a nicer grommet on them that usually take up the difference in the two surfaces.

Happy 500! Those are the tough ones.

Nothing too fancy, it's an oil pan I believe the neoprene washer is the secret.
