[b]Cashburn/B]..Yes..that's a real sharp Cobra. A few exits down 91 is not too bad. However, Martha's vineyard is a bit more. Hope the snow holds off so he doesn't have to test manuverability betrween the flakes..

It's hard to believe that Brian installed this without help!!! The clearance between the valve cover and the steering shaft is tight, but it fit!

Default Finally Turned the Key...

Well after some extra trickery to make everything work together, we took our first spin in a "Big Block Backdraft". That deep thump and heavy pedal change the experience. Plenty of WOW when you open the hood...





More pics and thoughts once we button it all up, dust it off, and get the wheels pointed straight

I ran a few more laps today. She runs very smooth and sounds nice. I can usually judge a motor by how much my office window rattles and this one is higher on the scale. Best part about it is just popping the hood though and looking at all that shiney stuff I need to add that this beauty came from another well known advertiser on ClubCobra.... SOUTHERN AUTOMOTIVE.









Congratulations Michael... but I'm still a small block fan (we are tough to change).

The result is beautiful! Worth the wait indeed! A big thank you to you and your brother Brian.

Thanks also to Bill and Susan at Southern Automotive for the 427 build. I am waiting with a nervous right foot.
IT looks terrific and from what Jay has told me, it will definitely have some power!

Now how do we teleport that bad boy to California before Thanksgiving?

How did the suspension handle the extra weight? Where does the temp gauge register with that monster? Are the brakes sufficient?

The suspension has been fine. The 15" wheels may help a bit in this circumstance. We actually brought the rear up the other day to match the front better and allow for Cali roads.

Temps. look good as well, we upgraded to a set of SPAL fans. The only time you notice any difference is heat is after you run it then open the hood. A lot more heat greets your face

Brakes seem good too. The only difference I noted is in a little additional steering effort, though the alignment has not been done yet and that usually is the culprit.

Not to be a buzz killer, but is that monster really going to get all the air it needs through that little filter? Does K&N make a filter top for that size? I have been considering a turkey pan. What's the poop?

I have heard that the turkey pan does limit the amount of air, and somewhere, can't remember, the gain of HP in going to a larger air cleaner was in the 20-30HP range. That is alot, but I wanted to go authentic so I am willing to suffer the loss. As to K&N offering a top filter, good question...don't know. I looked one time and could not find one. If in the future I decide I want the extra HP, I will probably just do away with the turkey pan and move to the larger filter. But for now, authentic is fine.

Jeff also, I will be using your measurements to order my cover. Thanks again.

I can tell you from driving it around briefly (Brian had more seat time on this one) that you can feel the engine seems starved for air. There are a couple options with the Turkey Pan to get more air in there. I actually found an oval style filter with a filter top as well... that would probably be the most flow through the limited space of the Turkey Pan.

And it's on a truck right now somewhere between CT and CA

Jay, do you remember the brand name of the company that offered the oval type? I might want to go ahead and purchase one just to install for when I do want the extra power.

As for the shipping...did you see the weather the driver is facing on his way to California? It's a blizzard in the midwest right now!! Any idea on what route he is taking? I am assuming I-80.

I believe Summit makes and sells it. Can look it up later if you like. On the truck I assume I-80. Could there be anything else to make delivery take any longer for you?

I've been eyeing the top one for an upcoming project. Only thing I hope Summit has corrected on their brand of filters is that the top actually matches the side filter in color. It should fit the Turkey Pan from my memory.

Just ordered the Summit oval so I can have the option to change. I will let you know regarding the top matching the sides. Dang, I am already making upgrades and I don't even have the car yet!!!

Dino, I hope that works for you. Just a further extension of your idea about 2 breathers. The turkey pan is very cool and I have thought of this for myself and that is to have a turkey pan on a fixed baseplate (so you would not have to remove the carb), that would also act as a heat dissipater and that I could remove with 4 corner wingnuts. It would be awesome for shows and cruising long distances in hot weather. The rest of the time I would use my 14" round KN top and side filter. I used an oval filter from a SPF and a 14" round with 2.5" high KN, but it was not until I added the top filter that my engine could really start to breathe. I know a turkey pan would be the worst of all but I really like the authenticity. Just a thought if anyone would like to comment.

By the way, where is Millbrae? I used to live in Glendora which is about halfway between Pasadena and Pomona along the foothills.

Millbrae is just south of San Francisco, next to the airport (former bedroom community for all of the people driving into the city).

I remember Glendora in SoCal. I used to live in Hollywood, of all places.

How has the weather been??? Looks bad from here!

YIKES IT'S MISERABLE I have been here since 87 and still can't get used to it. However, I drove my car all over the place before and after Thanksgiving. Got stuck in the driveway and barely got the car back in the garage. Need an suv but who wants one? A truck would be kinda nice but then I would be looking for a place to store a trailer.
