Default another newbie looking

hello guys and gals/audience.....im finally in the market. A couple of cars on ebay resparked my interest. Opinions or any offers on "unlisted" cars is appreciated. Im looking for a backdraft with roush 402...eyeing one on ebay that is local and another listing that ended recently in sarasota. The market is really soft now and it is time to buy. And any opinions from the audience is appreciated.

Default backdraft

Be very carefull who you buy from in Sarasota, I had a very bad experience with a dealer there. Just looked at your post on E-Bay and I would not buy from Ogilvie Automotive. And on a further note I would by a Superformance and not a Backdraft.

There are some very nice cars for sale right now and it is somewhat of a buyers market but the old addage still holds true that you get what you pay for.

Please don't take this the wrong way, because I think the Backdraft cars are very well built and designed cars. I have met and raced with Tony Martin (one of the principles of Backdraft) and I wouldn't hesitate to buy a Backdraft. But, what I am saying is don't let the price over influence your decision to buy a particular car. You need to decide what features are best suited for your intended use.

Regardless, of your choice I want to welcome you to Club Cobra. Plenty of information here and an opinion or two.

thx.....im not planning on tracking the car, but you never know later. Just want a fun weekend car right now with the sound of a big block and an overall attractive/priced right car. Im 37 so it may be in my garage for a long time. And the name Roush has a strong pull, even if it doesnt mean much.....excuse my ignorance.

Doctodd,
If you want a big block that is further reason to go with someone other than a Backdraft. They are set up for small blocks not big blocks.

I disagree 100%

Both 427FEs installed with factory supplied motor mounts and headers with no modifications to the Backdraft as equipped. Do I need to post the 460 photos

Hi, I am not trying to sway you one way or another but I have a Superformance with a Roush 402 engine and it is an absolute blast to drive. My advice to you would be not to shop solely on price if you can help it. The long term benefits will certainly be there. Welcome Aboard!!

I have a backdraft, and I probably had the first one with a big block installed however they where not designed with a big block in mind.

I am interested to hear about your visit to Boyton Beach. I was on the fence between, Hurricane, Unique and Backdraft. I visited BDR, drove Franks car and was sold. Bought it that day. The price is what I wanted to pay. the car is a small block but had plenty of power for how I wanted to use it. Driving it made the choice easy.

Nor were the first ACs ... product evolution. Original design was to maximize the small block (far set back of engine, nearly 50/50 balance, etc.) Then you adapt the product circa car #250 or so to accommodate the larger engines. One of the best driving Backdrafts I have seen was a 4.6 Modular setup ... is that a small block

Both cars look great. I have a 402 R in my BDR #419 and it is very fast and can lay serious rubber. I looked at superformance as well and they are very nice.I wanted 17" rubber without the top etc. and other things the spf comes with. But to upgrade to 17" on spf was like $2500.oo and Reg upgraded me for free.
I would also recommend a small block to keep weight on the front end to a minimum since cars have no power steering and are better balanced with the small block. Good luck on your search.

Its a 427 Cobra model replica...right?

While the small block may be quicker on some circuits the BB is still the king. When I open my hood, everyone jumps over to look at the full engine bay...even amoungst other Cobras, including all my friends in the Bay Area Cobra Club who drive Superformance for the most part, with small blocks.

Just the fact you want a Cobra is outrageous!!! So why not be as outrageous as you can be, and that means the BB 427.

doctodd,
I had {sold} a Backdraft. I can say I would certainly buy one again. The support and information they provided was almost priceless. I did my engine/tranny install myself so I had tons of question which they answered. While these cars seem to go through a constant evloution they are not your Ford or Chevy production built cars so expect to do some fine tuning and adjusting yourself. Cobras themselves are awsome cars and command and get lots of respect and are always a crowd a gatherer at shows.

well i guess it's all moot cuz i was warned about the place in Sarasota, so i wont buy from them and he wants close to 59K anyway, and the ebay car was taken down. So i guess someone bought it....maybe someone here. Either way, things happen for a reason.

Thx for all the helpful advice....i hope to be a part of this community soon.

Great looking car Jay. Do you take trade ins? Maybe one of these days I will want another one. If want to ship it to San Diego the weather here is prefect and I could break it in for the new owner over the next few weeks.

hi doctos
I have #84 and have had it sence new, 3 years. I cannot say nothing bad about this cars from the backdraft support to there friendly service Thanks to custom cars and for building my car.
If i had to do again i would put a 392 or 408 but i still love the power this car has with a 302 350hp I would drive this car anywere and $12,000 less than the superformance. and on the track lookout superformance!!
