BDR/E36 Suspension Torque Specs from Bentley
FYI, here are some torque specs from my E36 manual. Because the BDR uses E36 suspension/rear end components, I would think they could be related to the BDR... All numbers are ft/lbs. Some of the list may not be applicable to BDR so use caution as these are E36 torque specs. Maybe Jay or Reg could chime in if any of these are in error.
Mark
Front end:
Brake Caliper to steering arm 81ft/lbs
Road wheel to hub 74 (not sure about pin drive hub torque spec)
Stabalizer bar link to strut (M3) 44
Steering arm to strut 78 (replace with new bolt)
Strut assembly to strut tower 16
Control arm ball joint to subframe cross member 62
Control arm ball joint to steering arm 48
Control arm bushing carrier to body 34
stabalizer bar link to control arm 31
Stabilizer bar bushing bracket to subframe cross member 16
Rear end:
Drive axle to front drive flange M8 torx bolt 47, M10 bolt 62
Road wheel to hub 74
Shock to upper mount 10 (different mount on BDR)
Shock to trailing arm 57
Brake rotor to drive flange 12
Brake caliper to trailing arm 50
Drive axle colar nut to drive flange 184 (Better brake out the beer)
Trailing arm to front bracket 81
Bracket to body 57 (think this is different on BDR)
Trailing arm to upper or lower control arm 81
Upper control arm to final drive carrier 57
Upper control arm to trailing arm 81
Lower control arm to final drive carrier 57
Lower control arm to trailing arm 81
Final drive (diff) carrier to body 57
Final drive carrier front mount 70
Final drive carrier rear mount 57

Mark,
Thanks for the BDR/E36 torque specs. They will come in handy on my upcoming brake upgrade project.

I visited with Wayne last week. The high winds moved a lot of dirt and hay around last week. Wayne was excited about the new brakes. How about some details, especially about pad material. My originals are ok but seem like there could be more stopping power. BTW, Tony, what pads were supplied (#128 April '03)?

Tony,
I ordered the Brake Upgrade Kit from Jay @ Vintage Motorsports.
http://www.vintage-motorsports.com/s...cat=251&page=1
I haven't installed them yet. I will keep you posted.
Jay,
I just received the second shipment today, Thanks! The pad shipment should be here by Friday.
Al,
Glad you made it back home safely. That wind was bad!!!

Brakes
WAYNE,
THANKS FOR THE POST.
LOOKS LIKE JAY HAS A WINNER HERE. (THATS ALSO WHY HE IS OUT OF STOCK!!)
PLEASE KEEP US POSTED ON YOUR RESULTS.
AL,
APRIL 03 IS A LONG TIME AGO!!
I WOULD SAY THAT YOUR CAR HAS PADS MADE BY SAFE LINE.
WE HAVE FOUND THE OE BMW MADE BY ATE TO BE THE BEST NON RACE PAD AVAILABLE OUT HERE.
THEY ARE NOW OE ON ALL BACKDRAFT CARS. (FOR ABOUT A YEAR NOW)
I HAVE USED THEM IN A FEW RACES AND HAVE BEEN AMAZED AS TO THEIR PERFORMANCE.
UNLESS U GO TO AN UPGRADE LIKE JAY IS OFFERING I DONT THINK U COULD ASK FOR MUCH MORE THAN FROM THESE ATE PADS.

Thank you Tony.
How quickly we forget our babies when they get older. Looks like new and only has 4K (miles) on the odometer.
My car is almost strictly a street car, actually a foothills car, which means lots of curves and ups and downs. Great fun driving. Typically our group always goes on a run of somekind after our breadfast meeting, with foothills always just a few minutes away. I think we have 1 or 2 other BDR's in the group now plus a good sampling of all the other fine Cobras out there.
I haven't checked into Jay's upgrade but do you think it is necessary for normal, somewhat spirited use in the foothills? Haven't had any fade issues yet just not a lot of grab. Is the ATE pad going to be available here at dealers?
Thanks for your increased interest in these forums.
AL

Foot Hill Special
Hi Al,
The Std. Pads Are Fine For Your Aplication.
With Regard To The Stopping Power,u Might Find That,on Your Car, The Pads And Discs Are Glazed.
By Removing The Pads And Deglazing Them, and The Discs,it Might Solve Your Problem.
U Can Get The Ate Pads From Reg.
Secondly, when I Look At The Upgrade That Jay Is Offering At A Really Rock Bottom Price I Would Say Thats Got To Be The Way To Go.
Please Keep Us Posted As To Which Way U Go And The Results.
Regards

Mark,
I am happy with the upgrade. They work very well on the street. I have only used them one day at the WSCB Track day in May 2007 and they performed well. The combination of the drilled & slotted rotors with the ceramic pads Jay put together is the best for all around street and ocassional track use. And they look great too!

Glad you like them. Next phase is a caliper upgrade but that would be big $$$. I have the brake kits in stock if anyone wants them. Cost did go up a little (as with everything).

I really need to get a set of these ordered. I had planned on doing a big brake upgrade this winter but descided I probably didn't need that much brake. At least not the big Brembo kit type kit.
Are the ceramic pads messy from dust?

We've seen a decrease in dust for the most part. The other users would have to share their experience though.
