Jay,
Can I take a T-56 out without removing the engine? I can get the driveshaft out. Do you use a driver or passanger side pivot ball on you tranny's? I am having problems with the clutch fork hitting the pressure plate before the clutch is disengaged.

We don't use the T-56 here (yet). Though if we were I would likely use what Custom Cars has been doing and go with a hydraulic throwout bearing to be consistent with their installs.

I understand the problems with driver vs. passenger side pivots.

As for removal you should be able to remove the rear frame crossmember and tip things enough to get it out? On an earlier car that did not have the removable crossmember we removed a TKO500 and swapped in an AOD by removing the sidepipes and sliding the engine forward then tipping the whole assembly. Should be a similar procedure.

Thanks Jay, I have my finger crossed that it will clear the tunnel.

What has a better clutch feel? passanger side pivot ball, driver sie pivot ball, or hydro T/O bearing?

Passenger side pivot is best overall. The hydro T/O bearing is in between on feel.

If you used a GM T-56 you will be stuck with the driver side pivot or hydraulic bearing. If you get the Ford T-56 you have a passenger side pivot all set.

I "think" I have a ford, the pivot ball is on the pass side. Are there different length pivots available...I think you have read my problem.

Rob, the T-56 will come out, speaking from waaaay too much experience. Be careful though, it weighs a bunch more than a T-5. After I went to a hydraulic throw out bearing, zero issues.
