New BDR Half-shafts
I have heard a rumor that BDR is near perfecting their own IRS half-shaft. I have broken two of them so, if true, this would be a very welcomed upgrade. However, it makes me wonder what kind of strain would be put on the differential output shafts. I have broken one of those also.
I was also wondering if there is anyone that has changed the E36 IRS to something like an 8.8 IRS out of an SC Thunderbird or even a straight axel.

Jeff,
They are in the process of making new shafts, they will be the equivalent of a M3 half shaft. It will have a bigger knuckle and is stronger. I can't remember if they are making a output shaft or not. I'll get back to you on this.

Breaking stub axels on my jag IRS
I am breaking shafts drag racing as well. I have a Jag IRS with a 9" head so solved 1 problem and moved it to axels. Dose anyone know what material is best to make replacements stub axels from??

I am glad to hear they are upgrading the halfshafts as I bust both of mine. BDR blamed it on the limited slip and hp of the engine (600 Hp). Thank god for Vintage as they stood behind it when BDR didn't. I upgraded to Driveshaft shop half shafts. I broke both (thankfully) of mine under full throttle in second gear which is not a worst case scenario in terms of torque applied.

Guys, you do realize that this thread is 5 years old right? And the half shafts being discussed have been out for some time. DJ, if you're not on backdraft boys you may find more info there.
COB98, you posted a good, relevant question but did it in the BDR forum section where everyone is running BMW gear. If I were you, I'd go into a more relevant section and start my own thread to get a discussion started. I think you'll have better luck that way.

Lovehamr- Just for the record I broke both of my halfshafts last summer on chassis 992 so it is still a relevant issue (at least to me). It was one of my biggest concerns when I bought the car. BDR had no answers or explanation to the problem, they could not even provide a torque rating for the half shaft they provide. Owners with higher horsepower shouldn't assume they may not have a problem. Braking halfshafts will make anyone pucker up!

Yep halfshafts are an issue but the lesser of two evils. You could go with the driveshaft shops upgraded ones but then the problem may transfer to the dif. sect.
Remember these cars are based on BMW parts and not designed for the high HP and torque on the dragstrip.
I think BDR concentrates more towwards the road tracks for these cars than the short track 1/4 mile.

I don't know mine seems to handle the HP rather well. The thing that keeps breaking on my is the tire-to-road contact.

How do you launch at the dragstrip? Are you dragging the clutch through the beams? Do you have the LSD?
